Luckiest guy on the league? a HOF coach with the mosyt les in history, 2 7 footer All Star caliber players, a defensive player of the year to make his job easier, a versatile 6'10 player that can give them a double double and a high flying/exciting shooting guard to back him up.

If a healthy lakers team dont win it all this year, do you think this will be one of the biggest failure by a championship contender?

I'd say so. This team, and maybe the 2006 Spurs, at least for this decade.

No surprise. Chris making another reference to Kobe. It's pretty apparent his infatuation with Kobe is from his jealousy of him which then leads to envy. Pretty pathetic TBH.

He chose to stay in LA when he could've gone to the Clippers, with Elton Brand, Chris Kaman, Corey Maggette, and Bobby Simmons. He chose to stick with the Lakers when he could've gone to the Bulls with Ben Gordon, Kirk Hinrich, Eddy Curry, Luol Deng, Andres Nocioni, and Tyson Chandler.

He chose to be there. He had faith that the Lakers could put the pieces around him.

Was Larry Bird lucky that the Celtics were able to rip off Robert Parish and Kevin McHale?

Was Magic Johnson lucky that he was drafted onto a team that had Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on it? Was he lucky the Lakers were able to get James Worthy later on his career?

He was there for the 34-wins that landed them Andrew Bynum. He committed to the team as they were trading Shaquille O'Neal for Lamar Odom and Caron Butler. And they were extremely lucky to trade what was left over from losing Butler, Kwame Brown, for Pau Gasol. It wasn't until this offseason, after winning an NBA le, that they got Ron Artest as a free agent. Think of him as the Bill Walton of the Celtics or Bob McAdoo of the LA Lakers to help those respective Hall-of-Famers.

He looks lucky, but he showed more faith in the LA Lakers than they deserved in 2004.

If he wins then Id put his name right there with Larry Bird, He' still below Olajuwon, Duncan, Bord and Magic though.

Please Kobe asked for a trade. The only reason it did'nt happen is because he had the trade vetoed when the Lakers wanted Luol Deng in the package. Lets not act like Kobe was ever faithful with the Purple and Gold.

Garnett was more loyal than Kobe and you dont see people make excuses for KG.

At the end of the day, the opinions of his peers and rivals are the ones you can rely on the most in gauging Kobe's place in history.

Nobody cares who u put where. You are en led to your opinion, but that does not mean it is actually important

End of the day if the Lakers win the le, we Lakers fans are happy. I dont give a if the reason for ring was all Kobe, 50% Kobe or 100% Lamar Odom. It could be even a team effort

they said he was the best player 2-3 yrs ago. lebron has overtaken him since and wade is about even with kobe now. so those really dont matter considering lebron and wade will surpass him at one point (especially bron)

and so what if these guys pass Kobe? This league is about championships won by teams not " my player is better than your player" childish BS.

U think Wade is better than Kobe? great. Congrats

The results show the Lakers are better than the Heat. That all it matters to Lakers fans.

That's not why I put the videos there. We're talking about Kobe's place in history and there are some comments there regarding that. Listen to what Pat Riley had to say about Kobe 2 years ago (before he won his fourth ring).

Sure, he's one of the luckiest guys in the league. You need some luck to be as great as he is. He also is one of the hardest workers in the league. He works his tail off all year round, even in the off season. He's constantly improving his game. Luck, or fortune, is often where preparation meets opportunity. Kobe is very lucky. He also gave himself the opportunity to be very lucky. If he didn't work at his game as hard as he did, he could have all those things that you call lucky and could win nothing. A lesser player doesn't necessarily win a le with all these lucky pieces Kobe has. Kobe's great fortune also requires a great deal on his part to make things work.

If the Lakers stay healthy, they should be right back in the NBA Finals. If they face a healthy Celtics team, it should be a heck of a Finals. Against any other team from the East, the Lakers should be disappointed if they don't come away with the Larry.

Agree with everything here but to be honest I would expect a win vs. the Celts if we are healthy... to be honest the Nuggs worry the most if they can stay focused ... (not sure they would beat us but I think 7 games are VERY likely) and the SPurs if Manu is healthy if not then i think Denver is our biggest threat ... here's why
    1. Billups is a winner and has proven he can hit clutch shots and cons teh ref in to bailinghim out with foul calls ...smart guy.
    2. Although Artest will do his best Melo is in the Kobe mode on offense where in 7 games he is going to "go off" in at least 3
    3. Ty Lawson will give us fits DFish has no chance ...
    4. Nene, Martin and Birdman one of the few lineups that can match us with length plus athleticism
    5. J.R. can go off a few games as well (and if it is the same game as melo watch out!
    6. Afflalo can at least make Kobe work with his size and strength

Why we win in 7 ...
    1. Kobe
    2. Phil
    3. Gasol
    4. Artest making Melo work
    5. Our size
    6. Odom as an X-factor
    7. Nuggs self combust

    What JamStone said...

Plus, if you're going to say anything about luck you've really got to say anyone who is collecting a check from the NBA is lucky. For all the people who harbor dreams of playing profession sport, their more than likely going to be in the majority of those who don't make it to the biggest stage. If there is anyone who is counting their lucky stars, it should be everyone that wears a team's uniform.

Also, he's been fortunate to not have any nagging injuries up to this point. That can be considered "luck" if you want to really argue the point. But, even if you weren't a Lakers fan or Kobe homer, you have to acknowledge that he works hard day-in and day out. Anyone that discredits that by saying his success is pure luck is, well, mere lies.
