Palin, Bachmann to headline Tea Party convention
    Posted: November 25th, 2009 12:49 PM ET

From CNN Deputy Political Director Paul Steinhauser

Palin, Bachmann to headline Tea Party convention.
(CNN) – Sarah Palin will be the main attraction at what's being billed as the "First National Tea Party Convention."

Tea Party Nation announced Wednesday that last year's Republican vice presidential candidate will serve as keynote speaker for the conference, scheduled to take place in Nashville, Tennessee February 4-6. A representative for Palin has not confirmed the former Alaska governor's speaking role at the gathering.

The group also announced that Rep. Michele Bachmann will be speaking at the gathering as well. The Minnesota Republican has become a hero among many in the conservative movement. A representative for Bachmann confirms her speaking role.

The event could focus the political spotlight on both women. Bachmann has become a rising star, her ascent fueled in part by major support from Tea Party activists. For Palin - currently taking a brief Thanksgiving break from a national tour for her new book, "Going Rogue: An American Life" - serving as headliner at a tea party convention could increase speculation that she is weighing a run for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination.

Judson Phillips, a spokesman for Tea Party Nation, says the group is talking with other high-profile political leaders about possible convention roles, though he wouldn't name any names.

"(T)he convention is aimed at bringing the Tea Party Movement together from around the nation for the purpose of networking and supporting the movements' multiple organizations (sic) principle goals," according to a statement from the group.

Phillips says the conference will feature workshops, seminars, information centers, and organizational tools for leaders to take back to their respective local tea party organizations. He adds that the Republican Party is not coordinating or organizing with Tea Party Nation in any way.

Phillips says Tea Party Nation was launched in April, just before the first tea parties were held across the country on tax deadline day, and that the group held rallies in Nashville and in other parts of Tennessee on April 15. He added that Tea Party Nation also organized a smaller tea party event in early July, when a second round of events were held around the nation, but did not take part in the two cross-country tea party caravans held the past few months.

A spokesman for the Tea Party Express, which organized those two cross country tea party caravans, says they are not currently involved in the organization of the convention, but that they are supportive of the gathering's goals.

This oughta be hilarious.. the teabaggers and palin.. a match made in

I would prefer that they just join the conservative party and take all the conservative republicans with them. Then we can have the Democrats, Conservatives, and RINO's.

Man, pitbull plus Bachman are gonna be a super entertaining duette of ignorant, lying intolerance.

pitbull now wants a re-match with Katie C to see how much Katie has learned about Alaska.

holy ing , pitbull is dumber than a dog.

With pitbull , it's ALL ABOUT HER and dysfunctional ego.

If you'd like to see a replay of 1992, leading to Obama's reelection, that'd be the thing to do.

if a 3rd party emerged that had a conservative slant to it the problem would be that this party would hurt the GOP and vice versa. there are too many moderates who are have no confidence regarding palin as a president.

I can just see those pics of Giuliani in drag making the rounds while he's addressing issues of grave importance. Decorum. Gravitas. Stillettos.

Not if enough conservative republicans left. Thing is, liberals cannot sell a message to the people. Republicans cannot either. Honest conservative values do sell, when you have someone who can speak them from the heart. That is something we haven't seen since Reagan. We need that again.

You know, if that republican didn't get her panties in a bunch, and supported Hoffman instead of the democrat, he surely would have won.

The Palinistas (all the *real* conservatives, right?) couldn't propel McCain into office last year. How do you expect them to get to 50% of the vote if you jettison all the moderate and wishy-washy GOPers?

Thing is, liberals cannot sell a message to the people.
    Yes, they did.

    Republicans cannot either.
    Sure they can.

Honest conservative values do sell, when you have someone who can speak them from the heart. That is something we haven't seen since Reagan. We need that again.
Again with the fetish of authenticity. It's in the eye of the beholder. One person's Heart of America is another's American nightmare.

Besides, a pure heart amounts to very little in an (almost) totally corrupt system and is no guarantee of wisdom or ability.

it would also be one thing if there really were fresh faces as opposed to all the usual suspects masquearading as new faces in a new party.

what reagan gave us was neoliberalism. and that same economic policy has stayed the course up until even now with obama.

Reagan preached about Conservative values and then spent money on credit just like every other GOP President...while giving tax-cuts to the rich..

    yeah.

    sure.

judging by the way she was polling, i'm sure she carried a assload of influence. people are capable of thinking for themselves and the people of NY23 saw that hoffman wasn't from the district and was more concerned with setting a national agenda than one benefitting to the district. they chose the lesser of two evils. truth be told, it was a special election and i'm sure it will be red again after the next real election. they just want a republican who carries their values. not everything is so black and white for everyone.

Not if enough conservative republicans left. Thing is, liberals cannot sell a message to the people. Republicans cannot either. Honest conservative values do sell, when you have someone who can speak them from the heart. That is something we haven't seen since Reagan. We need that again.
honestly if the repugs would drop the social conservatives and go to being straight fiscal conservative, gun totin', hands off business, FREE THINKIN', CIVIL LIBERTY PROTECTING, war mongers, they would when some serious general elections in this climate, but right now jesus and joseph smith run the party. there are plenty of mods angry over govt overspending who either had an abortion or a gay son and cannot support the party of no whole heartedly.
