The area in and around Big Bend is a lot of fun to just screw around in. It's lots of fun just climbing up these rocks like this.

Yeah, I can't believe no one was there to keep us out of that area.

Cool shot of the Rio Grande just outside of Big Bend, near sunset. I love the lighting here.

LoL no!!! She's this cool old weather beaten chick with a big ole Mexican hat, that rides a donkey around town, with all her belongings tied on the back.

Can't say I saw her or the Marfa lights. I didn't even know there was a hot springs down there. So is Marfa essentially a volcano waiting to blow too (like Yellowstone)?

You missed the hot springs??? You missed out!!!

Marfa lights are some kinda, unexplained, weird lights that bounce around out in the horizon, when it's dark. We went to see them one night, but they never appeared. IDK, but I think it helps if you drink cactus juice before going out there.

The maquiladoras are more towards El Paso I think. I'm not sure what that haze was.

Yeah, you gotta hit the hot springs next time you're there. Just ask one of the park rangers, it's also on the map of Big Bend I believe. It's just natural heated water from under the earth creating nature's hot tub. If you have some mushrooms to drop before that will definitely add to the experience.

Great shots from Big Bend, brings back plenty of memories from going there to hike many times. It's just a beautiful place, hard to appreciate unless you go there in person.

I've also done a float down the Rio Grande where our exit point was just after the point you guys were at near Santa Elena Canyon, the scenery is just amazing when you're floating through that canyon portion surrounded by these huge cliffs, amazing sight. Seeing your pics makes me want to get back there soon!

Very cool pics. I've gotta head out that way sometime. The farthest I have been west is Big Lake.

Nice! I'd like to make it out there again. There was a large amount of wildlife to be seen when we went but it was mostly javalinas and deer. When we stopped in the Davis Mts on the way back from Guadalupe Mountain National Park we saw way more wildlife (turkeys, javalinas, deer, skunks, some weird birds etc).

I really really really enjoyed Big Bend though. I want to go back. The bears we saw made the entire trip awesome for me. Its not as magnificent as Yellowstone but its awesome just the same (Yellowstone is probably the most amazing place on Earth I've visited).

You should try to visit Guadalupe Mountains National Park sometime. That place is much smaller but amazing as well.

As for the haze, its sadly a huge problem there now. Some of it is from areas south of the border, but quite a bit of it actually comes from our power plants all over the state. Air patterns carry much of that pollution in that direction.

I wish that we'd had more time in the park - as it was, we did the hike to the window and did the scenic drive (didn't get out of the car too much with that because of time ... and because the car didn't have AC at the time, so life was more bearable if the car was moving). I definitely want to go back.
