What's the word on Mathis and his quad for this week? Freeney's back from the ab, right?
Only thing I see for Mathis on any injury report is a neck strain.

    Freeney's back.

The Colts really have no reason to go for 16-0. You can look at last year and see that even though the Colts had to play every game down the stretch to hold on to their wild card spot, they still lost in the first round. Although that game against San Diego gets a massive asterisk attached to it. The Colts were literally a late pass interference flag against the Jaguars early in the season away from being #1 in the AFC last year. I don't even need to mention the ultra Hebrew officiating that happened in overtime of that game. I don't think it counts against the concept of rest vs rust. The Colts got mega jewed by a laundry list of factors, and San Diego was promptly exposed and eliminated by a team the Colts beat on the road in their own stadium earlier that year.

2006 is my favorite example of why you shouldn't rest after clinching, because the Colts looked like they were on track to do what they're doing this year and then collapsed for about a solid month before finishing strong and dominating in the playoffs. The key to that postseason run was definitely getting Sanders and Clark back healthy to start the playoffs. It's this reason I think the team really needs to not tank the Jacksonville game following this week's game should they win and clinch. The game would essentially mean nothing for them other than going undefeated in their division, but they need to make sure that if Gonzalez does come back this year, he's not coming back in a game that means something. They did that with Marvin Harrison in 2007 and he essentially blew the game for them with a bad fumble.

After that they'd be 14-0 and probably should sit starters after that point. Strangely enough I think the Colts B team is still good enough to beat the Jets and Bills and would give Caldwell a pretty good opportunity to showcase his coaching ability without having Manning and his stud defense to fall back on.

Yeah I agree that they shouldn't rest a whole lot down the stretch. I've never seen a situation where resting your starters down the stretch helps out in the playoffs. Also I think going 19-0 is an accomplishment worth going for, if they go 19-0 it's pretty hard to argue anyone as a better all time QB than Peyton.

Indianapolis Colts: Public Enemy No. 1 on Broncos' hit list

Steelers and Chargers are secondary, but the Colts take the cake.

I still can't forget about the 2003 and 2004 brutal blowouts.

I guess stomping the Chiefs gets that "lost to the Redskins and hid from Spurstalk until they got a win streak going again" stank off of you pretty well now doesn't it?

What did I say?..I remember saying Manning owns us, which is true, and I said I expect Denver to lose, which could still happen, although unlikely..
how exactly is it unlikely that Denver will lose to the Colts?

He's dealing with a quad that knocked him out of the ans game. Soft-tissue damage is the word. Polian not revealing anything yet.

    Thanks for the update.

A good rule of thumb with the Colts in the Dungy era was that if you practice on Friday, you play on Sunday, and except maybe one fluke this year, that has held true under Caldwell. If Mathis practices tomorrow, he'll probably be good to go, but Friday is the practice to look for as far as what his projected gameday status should be.

Ty Law is still there right? That's probably why Bronco fan is excited for this game. Unfortunately for them, those days are over.

No Mathis Wed/Thurs, now Diem is hurt at RT. They're talking about moving Ugoh to RT for Sunday, if need be.

    I'm still going Broncos 31, Colts 27

That's great news for the Colts. There's 3 false starts they can do without every game.

Colts won't lose. They'll wrap up the #1 seed this weekend and then start resting everyone next weekend.

, if they have a big enough lead, they'll probably start resting starters by the third quarter.

I really hope Caldwell doesn't rest the players this season. I mean, a little is OK, but I hope he doesn't rest them so much that they lose the momentum they have going.

I really don't see Indy resting their players after this..not this early..

This W could kill 2 birds though..beating the Colts would pretty much guarantee that Indy s Jacksonville next week out of anger alone(even though Indy would probably win either way)..

A loss could mean a more laid-back Colts vs. Jacksonville, possibly even seeing them rest their guys more than they usually would..

    at least IMO..

I hope Caldwell doesn't take the Dungy approach and rest players. I've always hated that.
