That sucks, I was about to posit that Fred Durst was Zack's protege of sorts.
Forgot about Anthrax.

Protege would come after. Did Limp come after Rage Against The Gay?
Wow. You are amazingly witty.
lol. Yeah, I never really cared enough to look into what they are ing about, but their music makes for great workout tunes that never get old.
I know, huh?
ughhhhh
I don't understand some of these responses at all.
classifying nickelback and audioslave in the same "crap rock" category? Do you know who Tom Morello is?
Zack, one of the best lyricists of the last 20 years IMO, being called out for a lack of "poetic skill", so to speak?
And maybe, just maybe, the actual idea of RATM's "prank" was stupid, but it's also meaningful for a variety of reasons.. not the least of which being the ridiculous censorship of our airwaves. You see comedy shows like FG make gags on such ideas all the time, it's almost a regular part of their jokes - but when someone actually steps up to the mic and let's people here it straight from his or her mouth, it's somehow foolhardy or laughably stupid.
Pretty sad that some people don't understand that what their favorite writers, actors and musicians are crying out for.
I posted what I did mockingly because I don't think he is much of a lyricist at all, personally. He was a great rallying point for cause-its in weekly demonstrations on campuses around the country, as well as stoners who waxed political in their finer moments. To loosely quote a college acquaintence of mine circa 1998 - "His lyrics are all political and , and Morello went to Harvard, dude..." I think he is easily outshined by Cornell, especially in the lyrics department. See what I did there?
That being said, I was interested to hear his work with DJ Shadow and Trent Reznor (separate stuff), but neither was ever released. I also think the causes they championed were worthy, but was really turned off by Zack's voice, and thought his lyrics were lacking, which he may have tried to make up for by screaming so much.
zack would be the dylan of the 90's lyrically, even the songs that aren't political have so many meanings behind them....yea it was a stupid prank, there was really nothing rebellious about it (especially since the UK doesn't have nearly the same strict censorship laws as we do here), but its good to know there are some that follow in the line of morrison on ed sullivan.
and yea tom morello is probably the best guitarist, well ever, in terms of originality and talent, but even jimmy page and tony iommi played with some of not so greats as well as greats.
dude if you don't like them, then why go into a a thread about it? its not like you would catch me in a carrie underwood thread...besides my point was that if there was no rage, there wouldn't have been a limp bizkit(yea they do suck) but owe a great deal of that suck to a genius band.
no. just no. durst is to zack as that dude from silverchair was to kurt cobain.
true, with that whole judgement night thing, i'm sure they owe and influence to anthrax, even in the rift in that you can hear where tom morello tried to copy weird as sounding sound effects from a guitar. so i would have to agree with this.
You must have a really low standard for genius.
Pink Floyd was a genius band. Rage, not so much.
damn brah
panic giraffe just knows everythin doesn't he?
genius is relative. its just my opinion. you're en led to your own. i would call pink floyd genius as well, but would put rage in the same category because they both had a new sound that wasn't widely heard in their respective generations til they came out.
never claimed to.
now please die in a fire.
you're still butthurt over a joke I made about SRV.
Sorry I don't finger my asshole to ratm like you do, carry on if that's your thing. No one's stopping you.
Greg Oden, Aka Stretch has owned this thread merciless.
i said i saaaaiiiid i saaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiidddddddd
that asshat better bring his shinebox next time.
I love Rage. I'm not gonna spout on about how the lyrics are oozing with layers of deep meanings, or how they were the first or special in some special way.
They were good though. I still jam out to any of their hits that comes on the radio. I even liked Battle of LA. Not every song. But I like it. Their drumming and basslines are incredible. Morello is unique. Zach is a good screamer.
If you ask MannyIsWrong, he'll say that Zach was a punk that spouted bull ....most ironic thing he's ever said because Zach basically was Manny 1995-2000
Rage is okay.
They rock. But should never be mistaken for being deep. They're political songs ring deep like a 14 yr old kid who sports an Anarchy logo shirt and gets pissed that his mom made him a three course breakfast and is just like.. "Maawwwaamm!! I hate you! i just wanted a poptart, i need the sugar ruuuuusshh!!"
you i wont do what you tell me
Yeah well that's cuz Cornell is a lot better than what's his face. Now run and hide before got giraffe tries to castrate you for not sharing the same opinion.
Rofl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RATM with Zach changed the thinking of thousands of indifferent youth.
Audioslave with Cornell sold some records.
lol cornell
Fist in the air in the land of hypocrisy
Social justice, equality, and ing the system happen to be the MO of RATM.
If you like the status quo and MTV, then you like Audioslave. nothing new here.
