Haywood is a very good defender. In fact his on-the-ball defence on the post is his best attribute as a player, his biggest strength. He's also a good pick'n'roll defender. Good shot-blocker. Great combination of size and quickness. Very sound from a fundamentals perspective. Fast changing ends on transition.

You mean, like opposing centers used to have big nights against, say, Perkins, when the Celtics were one of the worst defensive teams in the league, or Bogut, when the Bucks were the worst defensive team in the league, etc etc.?

You're a know-nothing. Big men get creamed all the time if the perimeter defense doesn't work. If the guards are too slow fighting the screen, they'll leave their big man out to dry so long, making them unable to recover for his man. If they're getting broken down, the big man will have to step out to deny penetration, leaving his man alone. , this is so 101. Again, you're a know-nothing. Go learn to see the game.
