and on the plus side. Mike Harris is a good guy who is a workhorse and tough minded just like Landry. Fits in with the Rockets way better than headcase Von Wafer. If you're going to be a headcase at least have skillz like Rodman, Maxwell, or Artest.

    Rockets Turn to Harris

HOUSTON - NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports the Houston Rockets plans to re-sign free agent guard Von Wafer fell through when Wafer did not pass his physical Tuesday night.

Sources told FOX 26 the Rockets may re-visit Wafer's situation soon.
With Wafer no longer an option the Rockets signed forward Michael Harris from the team's NBA Development league affiliate, the Rio Grande Vipers.
Harris was at the Rockets game with the Clippers Tuesday night just to watch the game and then he got the surprise of his life.

"It's a very big day," Harris told FOX 26 Sports. "I was just coming to the game and they hit me with this.

"It's a very good Christmas present."
Harris is third in the D-league in scoring, averaging 25.3 points per game. He also is averaging 7.1 rebounds a game.

"I am going to try to do some of the same things I did in the D-league." Harris said. "The Rockets already have leaders. I am going to try and bring energy."

Harris, who played his college basketball at Rice in Houston, saw action in 17 games with Houston during the 2007-08 season.

When asked what will be different for him in this stint with the Rockets Harris gave a quick one word answer.

"Hunger," said Harris. "I wanted to get back (to the NBA). I missed everything about it."

    Harris is 6-6, 235 pounds.

"There's nobody more ready for the NBA right now than Michael," said Tony Dutt, Harris' agent. "This is the best situation for him,"
Rockets officials have not been available for comment.

    Revisit the Wafer situation? WTF!?!

This won't affect Kyle Lowry's minutes, will it (fantasy owner)?
    No, it won't.

Story just keeps getting wierder. Either he's really injured and will take time to heal or he didn't pass the doping part and he needs to clear his system and do it again. Why would the Rockets say they will revisit this?

The Grizzlies passed on signing free-agent guard Von Wafer on Tuesday because of injuries that the team believed wouldn't allow him to play right away.

Wafer, 6-5, was in Memphis on Sunday and Monday and underwent a series of tests that revealed a hip and back injury. The Griz backed off because of Wafer's pre-existing conditions and their interest in a sudden trade proposal, according to team sources.

Wafer, however, was expected to sign a deal with his former team, the Houston Rockets.

The Florida State alumnus recently agreed to a buyout with a Greek team, Olympiakos. He was expected to join the Griz after receiving a letter of clearance from FIBA.

The Griz rejected Wafer after his physical.

Wafer last played in the NBA with the Rockets during the 2008-09 season, when he averaged 9.7 points on 44.7 percent shooting.

He connected on 39 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Wafer told a Houston television station that he paid about $1.2 million to get out of his contract in Greece.

"I want to play in the NBA," said Wafer, who boarded a plane from Memphis to Houston on Tuesday night.

The Rockets reacquired Wafer because of an ankle injury to rookie forward Chase Budinger.

that's bad news for Rockets if true IMHO. Wafer said he paid 1.2m to that european club, which indicates he'll get more from Houston than this number. The Rockets still hold a virgin MLE if memory serves but I'm afraid Wafer will sex it up by signing a multi-year deal worth 3-4 mill a year.

good call...the rockets were only offering him a 1 year 2 million dollar (maybe less) deal before the season.

they would clearly offer him a much longer and more lucrative contract now.

They have to get him game ready first, by limiting his minutes, then increasing them to get him used to the flow of the game
