Forget Kobe or Lebron the only other person who can match up to Michael Jordan is Wayne Gretzy, who was better at their respective sport, who was more influential?

I think it's Gretzky, mainly because Kobe is around to challenge some of Jordans accomplishments... But I can't see anyone touching Gretzkys.
It's the same way with Jerry Rice. He's far and away the best reciever ever, and I dot think that will be challenged for quite awhile.

Yup. Nobody's close to breaking Gretzky's records.
But alot of Jordan's records and championships will be surpassed by Kobe and LeBron.

As for the original arguement... if im correct Gretzky won 8 MVPS! Thats nuts but jordans stil close... and since Jordan was HUGE around the world and helped popularize the sport everywhere... it goes to him.
Jordan IS the GOAT and I dont see any current players touching him.
Bird was not better than Jordan or Magic. Bird had a stacked team with two other hall of fame big men and an all star guard who was also a finals MVP yet with all this talent around him he only won three rings.
Bird only won three championships. Magic won five. If Kobe and Lebron win 6 or 7 they pass Magic and are right there next to Jordan.

Ummm, based on his stats and the games he missed (not to mention the potential playoffs he could have played), he would have.
Who gives a flying about a sport that has 100 turnovers for every goal.
Gretsky and Tiger (and perhaps Jack Nicklaus) probably trump Jordan in terms of dominating their sports.
In terms of being a global icon, I'd give the edge to both Pele' and Ali. In the US, Babe Ruth was probably the equivalent of Jordan in his heyday.
As for the whole package, who knows, but that's a nice group of athletes to be included in, and I think an argument could be made for any one of them ahead of any other.
