It was a laughable win indeed. Pathetic play by the Lakers and actually a good thing to level set them. Still a W though and that's what counts.

...and at least you acknowledge the unstopable, stacked, and talented aspects of the team. Kudos to you.
Always good to get a win... but its also naive to think that way. Really, close games, or OT games can go either way in regulation, and you need luck to win those games... in the long run, winning that one point game or OT game, or losing it, really doesnt make a difference in terms of how good your team is (other than maybe getting you one spot higher in the standings) winning a game by double digits in regulation is alot different to winning an OT game or winning by less than a couple points in regulation... in terms of how good your team really is. Thats why i never really get the 'a win is a win' mentality (that all fans use)

Not talking about the Lakers... just in general. If the Spurs beat the Pacers by one point... because of a game winner by Tim Duncan... a Spursfan might be happy with the win just because of the emotion of the game.. but really it doesnt mean the Spurs are any better than if they lost that game by a point.

    You know what i mean?

you also need to factor in days where things arent going the way they normally go (off days i guess), the opposing team being pumped for what for them is a big game, taking lowly teams for granted, etc....I think as long as it doesnt become a common occurence that 'a win is a win' saying has some truth to it. that pacers win for example, it was ugly but we needed it i definitely applied the 'a win is a win' saying in that case.

Agree. There are exceptions... teams go through lulls, and cant bring it 82 times a year... but you have to be cautious how you win games. A W-L record can often be fools gold, like the Spurs last season...

At the expense of sounding like Hollinger, margin of victory + SOS is a more important indicator of how good a team is rather than W-L. Obviously, they go hand in hand to an extent...

Yes, pounded home and in the ass of the Spurs by the Mavs 4-1.
