Now that we won by 30, we'll rise up in Hollinger Daily Power Ranking: at least to #4.

With this win, SPurs point differential will be +6.58 (up from +5.58), displacing #5 Orlando who has +6.00 point differential. We are just a tad under #4 Cleveland (+6.70).

    Duncan's double-double gives Spurs 10th win in 12 games

SAN ANTONIO -- Tim Duncan had 23 points and 10 rebounds, and the San Antonio Spurs beat a winning team for the first time in a month with a 108-78 victory over the Miami Heat on Thursday night.

Manu Ginobili added 18 points for the Spurs, who have won 10 of 12. But the Heat are the only winning team among those victories, a fact not lost on Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

Before the game, Popovich said he's been "not quite as impressed" as the streak may suggest since the Spurs have only been dominant against weaker compe ion. Nonetheless, San Antonio won its fourth straight.

Miami, meanwhile, was dealt its most humiliating loss this season. Michael Beasley scored 26, and Dwyane Wade had 16 before watching the blowout from the bench in the fourth.

The Heat fell on the road for the second consecutive night. Back-to-back games have been trouble for Miami, which is 1-7 whether playing on the first or second night.

Miami made just 10 field goals in the second half.

Duncan scored 13 in the first quarter, but the Spurs didn't need him much after leading 58-49 at halftime. He shot 10 of 13 from the field as San Antonio cruised to its biggest victory of the season.

The Spurs have leaned on Duncan as their leading scorer in seven of their last 12 games. Even with the overhaul San Antonio underwent this summer to give its aging All-Star help, Duncan has continued to carry the Spurs during their best stretch so far.

That stretch finally includes a victory over a winning team -- which the Spurs hadn't done since Nov. 27 against Houston.

Between then and now, the Spurs withered against division leaders Boston and Denver, lost to Utah and Phoenix and couldn't beat Portland despite the banged-up Trail Blazers playing without Brandon Roy.

All told, even though San Antonio finally looks to be in a rhythm after a 9-9 start, the Spurs are 3-10 against teams that had winning records entering Friday.

"If all nine (recent) wins were against Cleveland, Orlando, Phoenix or the Lakers, I'd be pretty impressed with us," Popovich said before the game. "But that's not the case. Hence, I'm not quite as impressed."

Tony Parker had 15 points and rookie DeJuan Blair had 14 for the Spurs.

Beasley and Wade were the only Heat players in double-figures.

    Game notes
The Heat fell to 2-21 all-time in San Antonio. ...The Spurs are slowly getting closer to getting their full roster back. F Matt Bonner (broken hand) is expected to miss another two weeks, and F Michael Finley (ankle) has resumed shooting baskets and conditioning.

I was intrigued by Fratello's remark that he found it curious that Pop didn't show Manu any trust earlier in the season. I think Fratello was basically saying that Pop's lack of confidence in Manu held him back in some way. Whatever was going on, I figure Pop was playing it safe cause in the interview with starry starry night he again made the statement that without Manu we're not going to get where we want to.

Mike Fratello and Marv Albert also spent about 10 minutes talking about Fratello's Facebook page and how he chose his tie instead of them paying attention to the game and doing the play-by-play. Seriously, they even went back and talked about Twittering in the last quarter. Do we really care what these guys say? Just because Fratello's a former coach doesn't make him an insider on how the Spurs do things.

I think Fratello is confusing Pop's decision to keep Manu as a bench player as some kind of insult, which it would be if Manu wasn't a team-first player. I guess Fratello's been brainwashed by his own players over the years. Kind of sad.

Great game by the Spurs. It's about time we get a win over a .500+ Team, and it doesn't hurt to get a blowout on National Television against the Heat. Great victory. The best part about these games is that we can still win by a big margin, but we don't even have to play our players big minutes like other teams. Not a single person on the Spurs roster played over 29 minutes in that game! Now that says a lot.

Anyway, the Spurs have won their 4th straight, and have won 10 out of their last 11 games. My Spurs are finally turning around, and it feels great. I hope people keep underestimating them and counting them out. The Spurs always work better under the radar.

Anyway, Happy New Year! And here is to 2010 and the new Decade!
