Lakers, Celtics, and Cavs looked imminently beatable these days.
The Spurs could be a factor they were thought to be in the pre-season.
It's always a gd coaster ride with this team.
Not bad to end the year. 2010 here we come . . .

I didn't expect a jump to #3 spot. We are better than the Lakers and the Mavs? Wow! While I am happy with the ranking, it means little until we actually beat both teams convincingly...
In any case, good progress. Happy New Year to all.
Hollinger is in love with the winning-margin stat. We have only won 3 games against teams with winning records. That's not deserving of a high ranking.
We've benefited from a very soft schedule in the 1st quarter of the season. It seems like we have 20 losses because some of our wins have been ugly too.
Not that we haven't blown teams out but the lineups have been all over the place and we don't seem to have good chemistry. We've won games where we've had double digit turnovers.
Yet another reason why Hollinger's rankings are meaningless. I am hopeful that the Spurs will continue to improve but I wouldn't be surprised to see us slip in to the playoffs with a mid level seeding. (Lakers, Denver, Dallas and possibly the Suns might finish higher.) -- MIGHT.
lol John Hollinger. Last year we bashed him for saying the Spurs might not make the playoffs, and made fun of his system, calling him the worst "expert" in the business. Now we're happy that we're third in his power rankings? Come on people..let's just enjoy how our team is playing, and not base our success on an idiot like Hollinger.
+1
When we're not at the top, he's garbage. When we get respect, oh happy days?
Dumb.
spurs are nowhere ready to compete with the top contenders. give it another 20 games. i know it's hard for the highly emotional fans.
just sayto power rankings
Seriously, anyone who thought they wouldn't be clearly doesn't know the organization
The great thing is we are improving and the team is finding the right mix. With the way they are playing now opposing teams have a lot to prepare for.
this and nba rankings
we must continue to stay under the radar
sounds good to me, damn
we climbed so fast didnt even get on anyones radar (media ppl) then all of a sudden the media are sucking our silver and black nuts, lets not jinx anything and pray for durability
2nd best team now.
2007 Finals rematch?
Hollinger now has the Spurs at #2
well hollinger does things purely by the numbers, so it's gonna be extremely subjective.
with that said, his opinion means little.
Win margin IS a typically reliable indicator of success. Not sure why people are going out of their way to find something to complain about. I take this as a positive sign that we are making progress and have the potential to finally get it together against the quality teams, especially with Tony and Manu finally showing signs of their former selves.
i remember one season when hollinger had the jazz at #1 and then went on to proclaim them as the most likely champions. didn't happen.
i've always found Hollinger stats almost useless (power rankings, PER...).
but your first sentence is just ........ dumb.
I agree that his power rankings aren't really relevant, but PER is a great stat..
Ahh spurs is at number 2 now.
I only like PER. The rest of Hollinger's stats suck. And his rankings make 0 sense unless you look at point differential. Usually, the best team has the highest point differential.
What is PER? How does it work?
