Just read on the UFL access website that SA could have a team for the 2010 season. Would you go to any of the games?

If we do get a UFL, would this hurt our chances for an NFL team if the have an expansion or relocation?

  3. #3
Seriously doubt it. Mostly because the NFL is not expanding or relocating here unless they get REALLY desperate.

Even so, the UFL won't be signing long term leases or anything like that I'm sure, so if an NFL team does come, it'd be easy to kick the UFL team out.

Why not? There is always room for one more in the Graveyard of Wannabe Football leagues that sadly is SA.

San Antonio will never get an NFL team.
    - Not enough people in the metro, thus sucky local TV revenues, etc.
    - Not enough corporate presence
    - Not enough richers
    - No history of supporting any franchise not named "Spurs"
    - No facility up to NFL standards
    - Dallas gets major love from SA fans, Jerry Jones will do what he can to quash any expansion here in the incredibly unlikely event anything was ever planned

Those old beliefs that San Antonio isn't good enough for an NFL team are bygone ideas that don't match today's reality. I won't go into pointing out all of the flaws in your arguments but suffice to say that when the league does finally grant SA a franchise Jerry Jones will have little if any to say about the matter. It's all about economics. And San Antonio qualifies contrary to what you might believe about the city.

Um, no. SA has more poeople in its metro area than Kansas City. Which has NFL and MLB.

SA has more people in its metro area than Jacksonville, which has NFL.

SA has more people in its metro area than Charlotte, which has NFL and NBA.

SA has more people in its metro area than Nashville, which has NFL and NHL.

    - Not enough corporate presence
    lol.

SA is home to 5 F-500 companies, more than a lot of current NFL cities.

    - Not enough richers
    Not enough richers? What?

Besides having 7 billionaires living in San Antonio and many others making SA their second home, besides metro SA having the third largest amount of millionaires in Texas behind Houston and Dallas respectively, how does SA not have enough "richers?" You do understand this isn't SA of 1995, right?

    - No history of supporting any franchise not named "Spurs"
This is just straight up stupid. So no city should be along a pro team if they've never had a chance to support on before?

    - No facility up to NFL standards
I guess new construction ceases to exist now.

    - Dallas gets major love from SA fans, Jerry Jones will do what he can to quash any expansion here in the incredibly unlikely event anything was ever planned
Dallas, the Cowboys and Jerry Jones.

Thanks for going through the trouble of debunking the old ideas of SA not being qualified for an NFL team. Your replies are all correct imo. Especially the one about SA not having enough rich people. And yes, Dallas.

You can pick at these individually, but as a body of work they damn SA's chances to be awarded an NFL franchise. There's one more:

    - Los Angeles still doesn't have an NFL team; do you really think the next one is awarded to SA over LA?

But go ahead, be the extreme homers you are and keep dreaming your dreams about the NFL giving SA a franchise. There's a reason that SA is constantly used as a pawn, and only a pawn, when other teams want better deals from their home towns. Unless there is some billionaire out there that wants a team in SA and is willing to fund the bulk of the costs, it's simply not going to happen.

    Extreme homers? lol

My post had nothing to do with whether SA deserves an NFL team (I've made my opinion known on this subject before) and my answers were not tilted to make SA look good, my post and answers were simply made to counter your claims about SA that are so false and misguided I had to correct you.

Take from my answers what you want, if it makes SA look like a better candidate for an NFL team or not, I don't care, I simply corrected you when you were dead wrong.

That is very true. It is also telling of something else that underlines why LA has a hard time getting an NFL team.

No stadium fitted for a modern day NFL team.

Also, bottom line, LA had two teams and lost both, there's a reason for that.

SA is a better NFL market than J'ville, and sadly for them, our stadium is better. Buffalo is struggling, and not a great market. City of SD is bankrupt and the Chargers need a stadium. Minny needs a stadium.

    Never is a long time.

I would love to see an NFL team in San Antonio, but I am also realistic in knowing that when it happens it probably won't be for a while yet, but anything can happen. I don't think it will be through expansion though, it will be through team location most likely.

So it exists now? No. My statement still rings true.

When it's under construction and built, then I'm wrong.

However, I believe the developer isn't even breaking ground on that stadium until they have word that an NFL is going to come to LA.

  18. #18
I was just stating the fact that the stadium will be built when a team is in place.

It would be if the stadium was built/under construction....

LA is not starting construction until they are 100% getting a team.

Wrong. The only thing that matters: NFL already gets extremely strong TV Ratings in San Antonio (better than many home markets), therefore putting a team here will not raise the value of the TV contracts (the only income source the NFL is really concerned with).

SA might someday get a relocated franchise from a small market team like Jax or New Orleans (I doubt it, though). SA won't get an expansion team unless the NFL is just plain desperate to expand.

If you want to increase SA's chance of getting an NFL team, stop watching the NFL and hop on the alternate league bandwagon.
