Wow, amazing article. Just Imagine these two playing together at the start of their careers. For sure, nobody's going to talk about Michael Jordan ever again.

Just because We think Kobe is the greater player MOST real fans know that it's close. And i think Spur fans even IF they think Tim's better would admit the same.

Both Laker and spur fans are EXTREMELY lucky to be blessed with 2 of the greatest players of this our ANY generation ...

What do you mean if we think Tim is better?

I will say what I think. If I had to start a team with a prime Tim Duncan or Kobe Bryant I would always choose Tim easily over Kobe. You can build your offense and defense around Tim and you'd have a greater chance at winning a Championship. I usually always take big men over guards too. All Kobe's rings involved a great big in the line up with him. To answer you question though I guess you could say they are close. It really depends on what you want I guess and I definitely wouldn't mind seeing them both on the same team either cause I think their games would fit pretty well.

Not picking a fight here but starting a team and who the better player is two different arguments. I agree winning with a dominant big man is easier on ALL levels of basketball. BUT if you have an MJ, Kobe or Lebron (Transcendant superstar great player with boxoffice appeal) I would take those guys over a good big man ...and I would still take those 2 over Duncan ...Lebron not yet because his defense is not great or his shooting ...(but in time I may change my mind he may end up the GOAT we'll see.)
But I would take Tim over anyone else I have seen except Mj, Kobe and Kareem and hakeem ...

I would take Shaq in his prime over Kobe in his prime (which would be about now, right?) so far.
Between Tim and Shaq in their primes it's a tossup really...

Now, as far as right now, Kobe is the better player. Shaq got too old and lazy, and Tim simply doesn't have the mobility that he once had. On that note, Tim's performance this season is that of a true warrior.

Your choice. I would take Tim over all small players except MJ. I would not take Kobe over him, but they're both playing in different positions so it's not always easy to compare the two. Lebron is not even close at this point.

Here is any example though how many rings would Kobe have if he had Malik Rose or an older D-Rob next to him? How many rings would he have if he had Horry instead of Shaq? Kobe has needed a darn good bigman next to him to win. I just don't get how you could start a team with Kobe over Tim.

Great article. No doubt Duncan and Kobe are the all-time greats from the 2000's along with Shaq.

Kobe & Duncan would give me wet dreams. That twosome would not have been be beat for 10 years. They could have Phil coaching even years and Pop uneven years.

Give Kobe Manu, David Robinson Stephen jackson Parker and Bowen and he wins rings still ...

Not saying Tim's a bad choice (how could I?)but Gasol is no Shaq in his prime and Kobe won ...plus Shaw got fat and Kobe still won

I coach youth basketball and normally you go size but I'sd rather have the best player.Obviously Duncan is great but the size over skill mentality is why: 1. Darko gets picked over Melo
    2. Bowie over MJ (hakeem too but at least he is great)
    3. Olowokandi over Bibby
    4. Thabeet over Evans and Jennings
    5. Bogut over Dwill and Cp3
It's also how the lakers tole Kobe for Vlade ... Look at the last 4 Finals Mvp's Kobe, pierce, Parker Wade you dont need a Dominant inside game to win a le just a post presence ....I will always choose the best player regardless of size and IMHO Kobe is a better player not by much but enough to where if i have lessor Post man (gasol is great but no Duncan) I can STILL win.
Lakers did not beat Spurs 2 years ago because Gasol>Duncan the lakers won BECAUSE Kobe is >>>>>Manu at this point ...

Again Duncan is the greatest big man since hakeem ... and has the better career ...he IMHO has the best CAREER of any big man other than Kareem when you factor production plus les.
But because Kobe to me is that special I take him over Duncan like you said my choice. I am not saying that Kobe=MJ but if you really believe the size matters more and he anchors offense and defense you should take him over Mj as well ...but you are just shortchanging Kobe which is your right ...but it just comes down Id rather have the 2nd greatest SG over the greatest PF ...

They would have had all the LOB's in the entire decade safely locked up in the trophy case, no doubt.
They pretty much already do. Who else has won it the past decade? The Pistons, Celtics and Heat?

The only reason I would take MJ over Tim is because he has proven that he can win with out an All-Star caliber big man next to him and do it consistently. Can you name me many guards in NBA history that have done that? Jordan didn't just do it once either. He proved he can do it numerous times. Kobe has not. If he can win one with out and all-star caliber big man and still be the centerpiece then my opinion of him will go up.

Personally if I where choosing the team I would still take Tim over MJ, but that is because I don't really like Jordan. If the choice was based on winning only then I guess I would have to take MJ first. I actually even liked Kobe a lot more than Jordan personality wise between 2000-2003, but he really lost me after that with the things he did both on and off the court.

I really don't think I am short changing Kobe though. I think they are both top 10 players of all-time.
