I know this thread is 4 pages long, but I got through 1 page and saw no mention of R-Type. This game and its sequels are proof that the Japanese hate American kids.
R-Type and Super R-Type were awesome. I don't know if I had any trouble beating them, but I can't remember. Also, Altered Beast and the Arcade version Shinobi were difficult to beat for me.

    Both at the arcade
That flippin game got on my flippin nerves! First off you need to be born with two extra fingers on each hand, second you stand there getting blisters on your fingers trying to fight while some punk ass 14 year old kid who knows all the codes pulls out some sort of magic power and kicks your ass.

I was pretty dominant in MK2 and decent in Killer Instinct as a youngster lol. I do agree pulling off some of those combos in KI were rather hard, but once you got used to 'em, they were like repe ion. Kilgore and Cinder were two of the easiest to master...

You are totally right! I used to play the heck outta warcraft II. I still play a lot of Warcraft III on battlenet. I don't really like RPGs so I am not interested in WOW. Strategy games are where its at.

I like when they keep the games simple, Original SIMS, Tides of War,Quake II,and Delta force, I hate when they try to make the game better and it losses its originality. As far as the arcade games anyone remember Defender?

We were those "punk ass 14 year old kids" who knew all the moves.

    Just a heads up.

I loved MK2. There was one move you could do with Kitana... it was something like
    1) Land a jump kick
    2) Quickly raise the opponent into the air with your fan
    3) Uppercut
    4) Do some ing flying punch before they hit the ground after your uppercut

It depleted half the opponent's health bar, and all it really required was him letting you get a jump-kick in to begin it.

Then cut their ing head off when it was time to finish.

Or maybe you threw your fan immediately when the jump kick landed, and then lifted them up with the fan. Crap, I forgot.

Twisted Metal 2 was the first game that I ever had for the original Playstation and I set out to beat it with all the characters. That ing Grasshopper dune buggy piece of was the worst ing car ever, but I finally did it.

Before that it was wasting entire afternoons against my brothers with Street Fighter II and Samurai Showdown.

I still remember every move and one fatality for SubZero (i think).

I played MK2 a while back and fell right into a groove not two fights in. Freeze, slide kick, freeze ground...I only remembered the one fatality though (decap).

    D,D,F,F HP

I used to know the Friendships, Babalities and second Fatality. Not anymore.

I used to love the glitch where you could do a fatality and do the character's friendship after the fatality. That game was pretty fun to play in the arcade. There was one time in Vegas, while I was underage, I had stayed on one quarter for almost six hours at the Circus Circus arcade. I was pretty good with Kung Lao and Mileena.

There were four games I used to play in a group for literally days on end.

    Goldeneye
    Mario Kart
    Gran Turismo
    Twisted Metal 2

    I was always Spectre.

Before that it was wasting entire afternoons against my brothers with Street Fighter II and Samurai Showdown.
I spent more time playing SF2 in the arcade than at home by far (same with MK2). Samurai Showdown was another game I used to play a lot, but it was always more solo. It was at the pizza joint I was "gainfully" employed at.

    "Ena, shin zo ni!
    Em poni!
    Swaub!!!"

    Phonetically anyway.

Trap the opponent in the corner, fan up, jump punch x2, throw fan on second jump punch, then standing punch, and teleport punch

Ya, freezing the ground on a downed opponent was always cheap by their standards. If you think about it, no other character had a move like it except the Green Ninja with his jelly-goop (Reptile?).

Was it just me, or for that time, was there a more satisfying move in a game than the MK2 uppercut?

The impact, the sound, the knockback, the blood and the total helplessness of your opponent during and after. Good thing everyone had it.

Now, as for high roundhouse kicks, Kung Lao was a bas .

Uppercut was good, as well as Baraka's slicing

There was a juggle with Reptile that was very under-utilized. You would do the acid glop, jump high punch, disappear come behind the guy and if you timed it right you could uppercut him and acid spit him into the same combo. Most people never really used Reptile, but he had some hidden quality. I just think they made him way too slow for a reptile.

Naw man, I just played this game religiously. In fact, I even created my own strategy guide that I made by hand for anyone who wanted it. I don't know why I fell in love with MK2, but it probably had something to do with just being pretty good at it. Funny thing is--I was way better @ MK3 than MK2.

Oh man! The Hive used to mess me and my best friend up! Must have destroyed 4 or 5 joysticks on that one. Hours of my life gone from a game you basically couldn't beat.

I ing loved that game, never beat it though. Probably my favorite video game memory as a kid was playing that. When we came across those giant earthworm things for the first time they tore me and my brother up pretty bad and we wasted a lot of ammo trying in vain to hit them. With all projectiles exhausted, my partner down, and one health bar left I made a last desperate charge on the final Tremor rip-off and killed the er with a weed whacker.
