Tony doesn't really need a 3, he is that good at getting to the rim in traffic.
I know most people do not want him to shoot threes but still I'm curious about his evolution on this range.
It's been 3 years now that he's working on it with Chip Engelland and I remember he stated himself that it's a part of the working process, that he will now shoot the threes regurlarly.
I think it's still important because now he's playing with an "handicap".
The fact that he doesn't shoot threes make the oppponants easier to defend, they just wait him down, it clearly doesn't help Parker to penetrate.
And the fact is that Tony will never get Nash's range but he isn't horrible, at least he wasn't, I remember him in his first years hitting big 3's against Kidd in 2003 finals and others games(2007 finals too). I know many PG who are consistantly shooting 3's and they aren't especially better than Tony but it helps them great in their game.
Plus, now he has improved his shooting form, I guess he could shoot better than he used to do in the past. At least he can't do worst.
I wonder why he doesn't shoot threes. Is it because he just deleted this part of the game definetly until his retiring (whis is a quite surprising way of thinking). Or he hasn't finished yet his working process.
No really I'm wondering it's even bothering me beacause I remember when Chip came over here it was clearly to transform TP it was clearly a CIA project. He made miracle with his jumpshots now why not three's?
And watching his games just... ... don't understand really...

I know he doesn't "really" need it but still when he isn't 100% it still helps and Ithink it could help the team too on pick and roll.
no.. i really trully believe shooting is tony's weakness.. i hate to say it but.. seriously.. if you had a decent jumper.. wouldnt u use it as part of your arsenal?
dude frustrates me.. always clangin' his jumpers.. it makes him more 1 dimensional tbh..
At some point TP was pretty good in shooting 3's. And given the amount of time he trained on it over the recent years, yeah im also wondering why he isnt shooting 3's. We indeed dont really need it of TP, but it sure helps and I would like to see him doing it more often.
That, and he isn't as good at shooting it as the people he drives and kicks to.
If he were inefficient, I'd be looking for a way to bump his effective FG%, but when his true % is always around 50, you don't really want him doing things to lower it, like shooting out of his range.
There are times when he cant shoot wide-open 2s. There are lots of players who simply don't have the range.
Don't go looking for trouble.
??? The only Spurs player that shoots the 3 off the PnR is occasionally Mase. Ginobili doesn't even do it. Tony is probably as effective as any of the guards on the PnR from 15-18 feet. That jumper is pretty money by now.
I don't believe that's true any more. According to 82games, for 2008-2009, 59% of his FGA are jumpers and his eff FG% for those jumpers is 42.4.

I'dlike to see Timmy attempt a couple of 3s every game... I think he has the range and the stroke for it. just another wrinkle to throw at the defense andmaybe it would help open up the lane for cutters.
If TP can be consistent again with his mid-range J I'd be VERY happy
I don't know what you guys are smoking, Tony's midrange J is very solid. I'm quite content with him keeping it in the 15-18 range, he doesn't need the 3-pointer in his arsenal
I disagree with those that are saying he doesn't need a 3-point shot..he definitely does IMO..
What specialty does Tony have right now?..he's a slasher that finishes at the rim as well as any point guard in the NBA..what is he going to do when he loses his quickness? it's going to naturally happen as he gets older..his mid-range J isn't going to be enough for him to get by, since he'll need to create space to get it off due to his small size..it also isn't consistent enough..
He'll really need to develop a 3-point shot to make up for the inevitable loss of quickness IMO..his current specialty won't translate with age..
no lie.. last season tony did show improvement.. then he went to play for france..
and the whole percentage thing.. tony didnt take that many 3's.. i can tell..
tony being able to shoot 3's.. im not bringing that up because i actually want him to take 3's and make 'em..
but being able to shoot 3's or just jumpers in general will not only get us more points.. but it makes his game more unpredictable.. tony isn't always exactly guarded up tight at the perimeter.. imagine tony with a 3 pt shot.. opponents wouldn't crowd the lane sagging off TP as much for the fear that this PG might just hit a jumper on them.. they'd need to respect that J..
He needs to work on his 2pt shot before he fires from long range. The spurs have three point shooters. They don't need tony to dial up from long distance because his % is too low.
