RJ was defending Dirk as well as you could..no idea why they brought in Dice to defend him in the 4th, it got Dirk going..
Dirk got going long before Dice came in iirc.

We have Dice for another year, right? Not really looking forward to watching him play like for another year.

Ya I was wrong about that, I looked back at it..Dirk scored 3 FGs against RJ during his hot streak..RJ still defended Dirk a lot better than McDyess did IMO, no contest..

Yea it seemed like RJ was doing a pretty good job on Dirk.... when he's hittin like that, it doesn't really matter how well you play him.

I only saw bits and pieces tho. I thought we would have it wrapped up after that Terry bull trip on Hill and the Blair dunk on the other end, everybody was fired up.... don't really know how we let it slip away, but seemed like the Mavs couldn't miss at the end.

I could have sworn Dirk got hot when RJ was guarding him. The Spurs are going to need another big in the rotation if they want to compete. If only they had a young seven foot shot blocker somewhere.
Uhhh.. the name Ian comes to mind

RJ played better D than Dice but his soft effort on the boards forced the team to rely on TD too much. It's awfully pathetic that we HAVE to play small ball because our only other big is garbage(Dice). The FO was awfully naive thinking a frontline of Dice, Bonner, rookie Blair, and Haislip(who?) was going to compete for a 'ship against teams like the Lakers, Cavs, Celtics, etc.

Spurs are really ed if our hope of a championship hinges on a D-League player like Ian.

Spurs bigs got in early foul trouble and that forced the team to go small. I'd like nothing more than to see Ratliff in street clothes, but I just don't see the Spurs making a move to change that.

If the Mavs can get the Spurs bigs into foul trouble like that multiple times in a seven game series then the Spurs are in trouble...but if the Spurs play smart team defense, I think they still have a legit shot to win a seven game series.

My wife said the same thing after half-watching it. Sadly, it was much more disappointing if you witnessed it. They looked good for two quarters, great for one, and then probably played one of their worst 12 minutes of basketball all season.

Wish I could say "win some, lose some"...this one was depressing.

Yeah, it sucks when we have a 7 footer behind the bench who couldn't be any worse than Dice has been.

There's just no solid reason to guard Dirk with a big. He plays in the perimeter mostly anyways. I mean, Bowen used to guard him before we retired him. Dirk is going to get his. That's just the bottom line. So might aswell keep the bigs to rebound and make him work on the other end.

    Kori,

Manu sucks. He now falls into the Malik Rose category as washed up and overpaid. Coach Bud calling a play for him is ridiculous. He doesn't have it anymore. Raise the Bar. Call a spade a spade... Here are some more takes for you that aren't related to 42 points in a quarter.

    Mcdice is old.
Tony Parker doesn't like his teammates. (pretty obvious)
Tim Duncan is not a leader and is deferring to Matt Bonner.
    Manu is manure.
George Hill is the future of the Spurs.
Richard Jefferson doesn't have a clue.
    Popovich's gravy training is over.
    Popovich has no clue.
    Coach Bud is a ballboy.
Roger Mason Jr. needs to be traded to save his career from this ty team.
    Keith Bogans is a joke.
    What else?

wait..maybe I can go beat Duncan228 in the find an article and hurry up and post contest!!!

    lol...

Go to a game..the fun, the glory, the passion.........it's gone...

Coach Popovich. His reign is done.

The defensive intensity has been a topic of discussion throughout the season. The proverbial 'getting a stop when you need a stop'. And yes, I'm including defensive rebounding (for those that missed the game thread). Because when we finally got a stop or they missed, we couldn't grab the board.

We needto take more pride in defending the ball. And it should start with the coaching staff. I hope Pop used this sabbatical to take a look to his team from a different angle and regain the reins of this team. If we don't make major strides defensively (with or without a trade), we're not going anywhere...
Who said rebounding was not a part of defense?
