Of trade rumors and plantar fasciitis

It is possible we will never know the veracity of the trade rumors that swirled around the Internet and radio airwaves on Tuesday. Did the Spurs really offer Tony Parker to New Orleans in a deal for Chris Paul?
Two high-ranking members of the Spurs' front office told the Express-News no such discussions with the Hornets took place -- although, admittedly, team brass has zero incentive to confirm the attempted and failed trade of an All-Star after the fact.
Parker himself had not heard the rumors until a reporter broached the subject before Tuesday's game against the Lakers. He dismissed them as well.
So maybe Parker was on trading block, or maybe he wasn't. It is inconsequential now because, A) Parker still works for the Spurs; no trade went through and B) Tuesday's other bombs -- that Parker is playing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot -- pretty much nuked his immediate trade value anyway.
Plantar fasciitis is a painful irritation of the tissue on the bottom of the foot, usually felt in the heel. Tim Duncan had the same condition in 2005-06, and it wiped out most of his season.
Tuesday's news confirmed what many have suspected about Parker for some time. After a stellar preseason, he just hasn't seemed himself for much of the regular season. He hasn't often been able to hit that fifth gear that makes him one of the most dangerous scoring guards in the league.
Even in Tuesday's win over the Lakers, when Parker scored 22 points and had one of his better games, he struggled to blow by the 35-year-old Derek Fisher.
"My plantar fasciitis is killing me," he said afterward.
The only good cure for the condition is rest, and for now, Parker doesn't seem too keen on it. He wants to play. The decision, however, rests with coach Gregg Popovich. Don't be surprised to see Parker get some time off soon, especially with the Spurs in the midst of a stretch of five games in 6 1/2 days.
All that is for certain at this point: Parker will do his healing in a Spurs uniform, and no other.

Damn, that the report from the other BS website was failing from all angles was sure, but that mcdonald is even taking the time to react on it and writing about it too is just ridiculous.

Coincidence that Parker revealed his plantar fasciitis not too long after he was supposedly shopped? That would be a good way to get other teams disinterested.
Parker without speed becomes a pretty average point guard. He's not a shooter, not a defender, and he can't back his man down. What makes him a super-hero is his speed and his ability to finish like no other...let's hope he can overcome this setback.

Huh? If the Spurs had actually made a call offering Parker for Paul, then a reporter is absolutely obligated to report that.
Considering nothing went down, I can't see any need as to why any reporter would want to bring this up - unless we know for sure it happened.

Most of the time, all these rumors would be shot down by GMs because the player's value would decrease and people would start lowballing the team for him, PF or no PF.

I guess what LJ means is that its not surprising and if NO today offered Paul straight up for Parker then of course the Spurs do it. It's the same as if the Lakers offered Kobe for Parker or the Cavs offered James for Parker. There are some no brainier trades that you do under all cir stances and I believe the Paul trade would be one of those.
In any event, while Parker relies more on his feet than Tim Duncan did when he had PF, I would assume that Parker weighing a large amount less would mean he puts less stress on his feet overall which has to be a good thing. Big men tend to have far more foot problems than small guards for a reason.

The Spurs hear the Hornets are having financial trouble. They call and see if the Hornets would part with Chris Paul to solve their financial woes -- by likely offering Parker and expiring contracts for CP3 and bad contracts. Hornets say no.
That's just due diligence. It's not like the Spurs are out in serious negotiations trying to trade TP. I'm sure there have been similar discussions with Toronto about Bosh. If the Spurs called Toronto and said they could have anyone on the team outside of Duncan for Bosh, that's not really noteworthy.
Chiro/Sports injury specialist here in S.D. treated my plantar fasciitis and after about 6 treatments he had the dad gum thing all but wiped out. Said he could do the same for others. Not saying he could cure Parker in 6 trips but.....it would be nice if he could.
I've seen posting elsewhere that the Spurs medical staff is good. But some of those posts are from the same sheep who pine how good Pop is so.....

I think this news is alarming. We paid too much attention on Manu and TD's health in the past so we think "TP is healthy" as a given.
But now, it turns out TP is not healthy either.
well, i know that obviously tony isn't specially liked by most of the ST members but still i find it very strange to judge so easy to trade Parker against Paul. Did we forget what Tony is able to do consistently at his best ? It wasn't so long away, just like year while CP3 was awfully failing and playing in PO.
For KB, LBJ, Dwight or that kind of player, sure, that would be a no brainer to include Parker in a trade. but for Paul, considering that Tony isn't so far from the same level (both at their best) and that his style probably fits better with the spurs, i don't think it's a so easy choice.
i have to disagree strongly. The fact that the spurs would even think about including Parker in a trade for another PG would be a very interesting new. Tim and Tony are considered the only two that can't be traded in the team. If that changes, that IS very interesting.Well said.

Duncan is the only untouchable part AFAIK. I mean, sure, you would have to throw a ridiculous offer for the Spurs to part ways with Tony, but the franchise is TD until further notice.
Gotta love how everyone is jumping on the " on mcdonald" bandwagon. There's not a whole lot going on mid-January...but he's reporting what's there.
