Laker les (before you start trying to give Kobe an asterik because of Shaq consider this...Shaq had multiple teams with several ALL-STARS and couldn't win until Kobe came into his own. Shaq had non other than Nick Van Excel, Eddie Jones, Robert Horry, Cedric Ceballos, etc etc...Orlando Magic with -- Penny Hardaway who in his prime was a mutha er, Nick Anderson, Dennis Scott etc...

What I don't get about the asterisk season is didn't every team play the same amount of games? Did the Spurs play fewer games than everyone else or something? It's bull that idiots want to put an * by '99 just because their team didn't win. Had the Lakers won Phil wouldn't have called it the * season. So all the whiney sore losers from over ten years ago can shove it up their asterisk.
BTW Yeah the sixers, nets, and magic were super hardcore opponents too lol

I personally wished it would have been a full season but everyone participated for the LOB in 1999 which makes it legit.
Only thing I will add is that the 1999 championship closed out the 90's giving the Spurs that one championship to close out that decade. We all know who the 00's belong to.

The Spurs in the 2000's had the highest winning percentage in the league. They had the third highest (Lakers in 80's and Bulls in 90's) winning percentage for a decade. If one were to buy into the OPs premise, one would also have to say the Celtics and Lakers cleaned-up on LOBs when the rest of the league was JV (or, as the case may be, ABA).
I don't understand the need for this thread. After the Michael Jordan era ended, the west has 8 les, the east 3. Most of these years saw the real finals to be the western conference finals. Neither the Lakers nor the Spurs seem to have an advantage or disadvantage over either of themselves.I wonder how the T-Wolves would have done in the 2004 finals had we made it? We did have two 1 point wins over the Pistons that year and would have had HCA. Bah, I am kidding myself. Pistons were going to beat whoever survived the west.
The Spurs continually beat JV teams in the West 05-07. You even lose to one in 2006. Once the Lakers re-emerged the championships stopped. No surprise there.
And every single one of the Lakers finals opponents were better than the Cavs by a large margin.
