The Zombie Sonics remind me of the Mavs around the turn of the decade. They have everything you want in a franchise on the rise, except a defensive force at C and a decent city to play in.

I dunno. While I may hate the Mavs, the Dee-Eff-Dub has really grown on me.

I guess I phrased that awkwardly. I didn't mean to imply a direct comparison between Oklahoma City and Dallas, just franchise-wise between the Zombie Sonics and the early-ought Mavs.

I moved to Dallas from Ft. Worth a year ago. Dallas has really grown on me, but the city for me is bordered by Northwest Highway on the north and Illinois Ave to the south.

Ft. Worth and Dallas are very different and cool in their own ways, but the mid-cities are pure ass. Arlington, Grand Prairie, Irving and H-E-B just suck. And I'm not very fond of north of 635 either, since Plano, Richardson, Frisco, Allen and McKinney are just one giant melange of big box retail and chain restaurants.

Plano & Richardson aren't quite as bad anymore, mainly cuz as we get more Mexicans, white flight is sending the honkeys into Frisco and McKinney.

I remember 10 years ago when McKinney was just about the most white trash boondocks place on earth. Now the place is a bourgeois mecca.

I typically spend my time north and west of Dallas. I'd only visit Arlington for The Ballpark and haven't been back to Irving since I moved out here. I live in Denton and spend a lot of time in Ft. Worth and Grapevine. I DO tend to avoid the Frisco, Plano areas and the like for the very reason you mentioned, but can appreciate their charm if you've got the wallet/stomach for it.

Being your typical biased Spurfan, I came to the Dallas area w/ every intention of hating the place. , I moved from College Station, so that should give you a fairly good idea of what I thought a "city" was.

Just wish there was a better variety of REAL Mexican food. Ah, well.

Come to think of it, is there anything in Arlington BESIDES theme parks and sports venues?

Tacos al pastor, enchiladas (that actually use tortillas roja, crema, y queso blanco), menudo, GOOD carne quisada, papas con carne, etc...

There's too many Tex-Mex places in Texas. And by "Tex-Mex", I mean too much cheese and ty tortillas, as well as a white-friendly menu.

(and, yeah, I'm a gringo, but I like to think I know good Mexican food having spent a summer in Mexico and traveling to El Valle quite often)

    Any place(s) you might suggest?

Cafe Veracruz in the Bishop Arts District, but that's a bit of a drive for you.

Also, for Mexican seafood, there's La Calle Doce:
