Houston mixed martial arts fans, take notice: you don't have to travel to Las Vegas to see good MMA action. Lonestar Beatdown, a Houston-based amateur MMA promotion that runs regular shows around town, is holding another event on January 30th at The Arena off 59.
The card is headlined by the much-anticipated amateur MMA debut of heavyweight Jason David Frank. Frank, 36, is probably best known for playing the role of the Green Power Ranger on the hit 90's TV show Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. His decision to venture into mixed martial arts is not a surprising one, as Frank is well-versed in several different martial arts. He also maintains close ties with the MMA community through his clothing company, Jesus Didn't Tap.
"I know I have a target on my back," Frank said in September when he announced his decision to enter mixed martial arts compe ion. "Everyone is going to want to beat up the Green Ranger. But I am no Kimbo; I've been training for a very long time. I wanted to get in there before, but I got injured. But I'll be ready when the time comes."
Frank will be facing Jonathan "The Mack Truck" Mack, a brawling and powerful newcomer with one professional fight on his record. Frank's MMA debut has been highly anticipated, and will no doubt be covered heavily by MMA media around the world.
The rest of the card will be filled by hot prospects from various MMA gyms around Houston. Featured bouts include two le fights: Bobby Powers takes on Joe Cruz in a flyweight le match, and crowd favorite Hossan Walker takes on Craig Gardener from Katy's Westside MMA in a welterweight le fight.

You laugh at this, but he's been in quite a few muay thai fights, he's been doing this for years.
I think he has a fair shot at this, but the guy he's facing doesn't exactly look like a push over.
