i would eliminate field goals and punting, you have to go for it on all downs, and have to score a TD, this will make the game more fun, and make the choice of receiving or kicking harder, also remove psychologically unstable kickers from the equation.

Have who gets the ball 1st determined by some stat, like say team with most yards.

    2. If still having coin flip, and instead of coin flip i want the above, but if still having coin flip then team that gets ball 2nd gets a last chance to score.
In otherwords if coin flip team scores, coil toss loser gets the ball again for one last chance to tie or win.

I would go with the college rule but start at the 40.

Simple. 8 minute overtime, no sudden death.

Kinda like it but why only 8 minutes?
And you still have the tie problem.

Well, obviously you can't have a tie in a playoff game. Pretty sure that overtime in a playoff game leads to another overtime. If the game is tied at the end of overtime, you have another one. Think NBA. A short overtime period, as many as needed to determine a winner.

    That would work too.

This is the only way to do it...either an 8 or 10 min period. In the regular season if it still ends in a tie then the GAME ENDS IN A TIE. Playoffs you play another 8 mins.

First to 6; touchdown wins but a field-goal leaves the door open.

First team to score six points would solve all the problems as an earlier poster pointed out.

Kickers are too accurate today because of the perfectly manicured fields and brand new balls.

In the old days, a field goal was a challenge.

Jan Stenerud, George Blanda, etc. had to kick dirty, wet, heavy footballs set down on a clump of slippery mud. That's a true test of a kicker.

I wouldn't change it. Football is the ultimate game of inches, where one mistake can kill you, and overtime is awesome simply because it's crunch time with no other advantage than a coin toss.

who ever wins the cointoss gets to try to score first if they suceed, then the opposing team gets a shot to score
if team#1 kicks a FG ans team#2 scores on a td then team#2 wins
however, if the defense scores the game winning td then the game is over
