sad thing for mavfan must be that even with how horrible Spurs are losing, they are still within striking distance of the division lead

3.5 games is a pretty big gap given the remaining schedules.

It'll take a fluke for the Mavs to finish behind the Spurs.

3.5 games is not a big gap with 40 games to go in the season.

is it likely? no. But point is, it's comical mavfan makes this thread when the Mavs are not clearly better than Spurs or Griz

Grizz are clearly better right now, with an even brighter future. Meanwhile, Pop and his inexplicable penchant for small-balling the Spurs out of contention has made him the new Al Davis of the NBA.

    Zach Randolph - 37 mpg
    Rudy Gay - 39 mpg
    OJ Mayo - 38 mpg
    Marc Gasol - 35 mpg
    Mike Conley - 30 mpg

    Tim Duncan - 32 mpg
    Tony Parker - 32 mpg
    Manu Ginobili - 26 mpg
    Jefferson - 30 mpg
    George Hill - 25 mph

Of course, the Grizz have a much younger core, so they can probably absorb those minutes easier than the Spurs, which is why Pop is holding his guys PT down.

Talent-wise, especially in the starting five, Memphis is better. They're younger, they're more athletic and they're more explosive. But experience is so big in this game that, should the teams play in a best-of-seven series, I'd pick San Antonio.

It reminds me a little of that series in 1999 between Utah and Sacramento. The Kings were faster and more dynamic, but the Jazz just knew how to win in tight playoff situations, and that was the difference. I think a series between the Spurs and Grizzlies would play out in much the same way.

The Spurs would beat the Grizz in a playoff series, without a doubt in my mind.

^ In that case, Utah should've beaten Dallas in 2001. I agree that the Spurs would probably beat Memphis in a series, but it would absolutely not be easy for them.

Of course it's a possibility, but I'm like 99% sure the Spurs would take it. I'd be sure enough to put money on it.

Sure enough to bet the sexual honor of your wife/gf/significant other on it? As in, she has to sleep with the winner of the bet?

Dallas was a 53-win team in 2001. I don't think Memphis is quite at that level yet.

That would be true if the Spurs were capable of getting stops late. They haven't shown any of that ability recently, and with micro-ball on the floor late Memphis could probably score at will.

Yeah It won't be easy, but still the Spurs are better. You say it yourself, the Spurs would probably beat Memphis in a series.

Memphis is doing quite well I agree and it would not be easy of course, but no, they are not better than the Spurs. Besides, nothing is really easy right now in the western conference.

In fact, my fiancee and I have agreed that if Goran Dragic offers himself to her, then she has the green light.
