I got to say that Obama showed real moxie last night….I like the new Obama…The guy willing to take on corruption & mistakes made by everyone…Demos, Republicans, bankers, court justices, special interest groups…I hope he can govern like a guy running for one term instead of these politicians who are more concerned with empire building…![]()

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.
so which president's SOU speech pumped you up?
They aren't supposed to be pep rallies or "state of the agenda" speeches. They are supposed to be about the actual state that the country is in.
Sooo…You guys can not say "one nice thing" about the President of the Untied States?
He uses my preferred pronunciation of the word "nuclear".
Obama did more for the middle class this year than any president since Ronald Regan…
1-Tax credit for dependents was doubled this year…
2-Income tax & DMV fees for new car purchase was deductible…
3-Cash for Clunkers program…
4-New college assistance for dependents…
1. No it wasn't. Tax credit for child care expenses. Thanks, Obama. My youngest is 15.
2. Irrelevant for Texans.
3. That was pretty sweet. Couldn't use it, but alot did.
4. I haven't seen one, thin dime of this, but I only have one child in college now.
Oh, and my nice thing to say is:
He actually seems to handle foreign policy pretty well. I thought his handling of the whole missle shield issue in Europe was pretty adept.
Giving away money is always popular with the electorate. Unless of course you're Bush in which case it's evil if you cut taxes.
Agreed. I'll add the Haiti earthquake to that list. I think he's handling that situation about as well as anyone could. I also support most of what he's advocating from a consumer protection agency.
Somali pirate situation was well played.
Coyote- This is not giving away money…This is about taking less from the middle class…I am going to vote for the guy that takes less from my paycheck & gives me incentives for purchases…
I don't know if that was on purpose, but... good description of the country.President of the Untied States
So you voted for McCain then.
I can't recall anyone ever claiming tax cuts were evil.
No one ever criticized Bush's tax cuts?
The SOU speech, to me, came off as pompous, flamboyant and flippant.
The first 80% was spent sucking his own (and by extension, his party's), with crass remarks towards the Right. Even had time to find humor in the decline of our country and its economic instability...multiple times. He didnt "dare" to say anything and using the SOU as a means to crack one liners on inside jokes comes as flippant and pompous.
Obama most certainly enjoys his own presence more than anyone in the world does. He is very proud of himself and his office and really likes to show how great he really is at every chance. He is a rock star, knows it, and loves being it.
Deriding the Supreme Court was...uncouth. Even though I agree with the President, the SOU isnt for that, IMO.
There were 3 times in the entire speech that had me listening.
Campaign Finance Reform (disclosing exactly whom and how much)
Earmark Legislation (listing every pet project in one list)
Changing the Political Game in Washington (only because I like to dream, too)
Seeing as all three are as far from reality as one could imagine, it was nice to take a little walk down FairyTale Lane with the President, but it accomplishes nothing.
Two things stood out as his strongest/most worrying points:
Freezing Government Spending for 3 years (kind of a bombs , but I doubt he has the balls)
Overriding the Senate with an Executive Order (another bombs , but again, a dud)
All in all, I'd say the President hit a nice little softball toss right out of the park. Especially when 75% of the fans are for your team. Not going to get you in the Hall of Fame, but you never had the skillset to begin with.
Obama supporters begging others to say something nice about their man?
This is getting ridiculous...lol
Across the board income tax cuts were better for the middle class - amounted to savings for every single income tax paying individual in the nation - and that savings has been realized with every pay check for 8 years now; WAY more than every one of those "cuts" you cited.
He's articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.
He's not peevish and brittle like his predecessor. Seems like more of a good sport, maybe rolls with the punches a little better.
