Have you ever looked at how much you get paid at work for every phone call you answer, memo you type, TPS report you complete, porn site you look up while you're supposed to be completing said TPS report? Well, if you haven't, you should. It's fun. But instead of coming up with ratios that translate to pennies per task, let's look at some mega dollar per task calculations for our beloved Spurs.

We're slightly less than 60% through the regular season, so if you take each player's salary to date, and apply their individual statistics you get the following results. There's nothing really surprising, but doing this calculation gives you some perspective on what bargains guys like Hill, Blair and even Bogans are, compared to their teammates. Of course, there's no way to measure the contribution a guy like Duncan gives a team, except to say he's worth every penny and more.

If nothing else, you can use these stats to confirm for yourself just how awesome it must be to be an NBA basketball player, and how grossly underpaid you probably are by comparison.

    Tim Duncan $288,170

Hey, RJ has been a better deal for us than McGrady for Houston. RJ's not even the worst deal in Texas.

I am still upset about the RJ trade. For $14million you should get back pieces not just 1 dude. Lets say RJ played great or his worth in money. What would happen if he got hurt all of a sudden? That trade goes from brilliant to stupid with one injury. If he got Injured now it really wouldnt make too much of a difference looking at his contributions. At the end of the 2008-09 season it showed we needed another guy who score at the wing positions and we also needed a shot-blocker and rebounder. We also needed a wing-defender. Thats 4 needs; and we have spent $22million on perimeter scorer - RJ / Rebounder - Mcdyess / ShotBlocker - Ratliff / Wing-Defender Bogans. For $22million could we have done better? I think so.

And if you want to make it worse. You can always add in the luxury tax payment into how much the Spurs are paying for RJ...

You can't really put guys like Blair/Hill on lists like this when they are on rookie contracts. Of course, they are bargains. But yeah... RJ sucks.

I know TP and Manu have some injuries and such, but can anyone really say that TP and Manu in their roles have not been just as bad as RJ in his? This is relative to what the team needs from them in order to contend.

This is not to defend RJ, but TP and Manu have been just as bad imo.

They wouldn't be bargains if they weren't contributing. Mahinmi's contract, because he's not playing, doesn't look like a bargain.

But you're right, you can't compare their contracts to guys like Duncan, Parker, Manu, Jefferson.

It's really just a fun way to look at their numbers...not so much to compare players to each other, as to see how much these guys get compensated to play a game.

That truly is a bargain for RJ. You'd think his size and athleticism would combine to make a truly rare commodity in this respect, which should easily have him earning more than anyone on the team in this category; 6-8 guys who can jump out the gym usually stumble their way into more rebounds.

RJ's a rare bird, which I guess you could say makes him worth every penny.

    dumb thread........

    Thanks!

The encouraging thing about you is that you'll probably come back and call this a good thread later:

    spurs are a average team....
    oh....wait a minute......

I still have faith in the spurs...there a good team.....

    And then there's this.....

I rather have finely start over rj
    followed by...

yeah....I don't know why people keep dissing rj. like he is the reason the spurs are losing
Oh, and he is a BIG reason the Spurs are losing...btw.

Sometimes your change of heart can take only 4 minutes:

well im been a spurs fan for yrs. and im still am but damn spurs do suck...
and then the change of opinion, in 3....2.....1......

r you kidding....spurs are not bad they just need to get it together

So...let me just take care of this for you now.....

awesome thread! The Chopper is the coolest poster in the history of Spurstalk! I'm going to lick his bojangles if I ever have the honor of meeting him!!! Yahoo!!!
