Boston's top guys are a lot worse off than the Spurs big 3 right now..McDyess also has a lot more left in the tank than Wallace..one of the main differences between the Celtics and Spurs, TBH, is that the Celtics get away with a lot more from refs, which is something that the Spurs used to have.."reputation calls"..

Agree with the le of the thread and with what you have to say. Specifically, the '10 Celtics remind me of the '08 Spurs. They've blown 9 double-digits leads since Christmas, which tells me that they're old. Old enough that they don't have the energy to sustain a consistent level of play for 48 minutes. In flashes, you'll still see the Celtics of old, but eventually you'll see the old Celtics.

It's funny how the media was seemingly eager to witness the Spurs demise, yet not one person has admitted that the Celtics look done. They might still get to the conference finals, based on their experience, mental toughness, savvy, heart, character, guile, etc. but I see no way they beat the Cavs in a series. They're just not going to have the energy to play well enough for as long as it takes to win a championship.

Garnett and Allen have fallen off a cliff, Pierce, while he hasn't declined to their extent, is in decline and Rondo is their only source of youthful exuberance, as well as speed/quickness. Perkins/Davis are good young players, but they're both lumbering big men. There's just no energy from anyone but Rondo; they look like a bunch of zombies.

I know they've had more injuries than the Spurs, but if you account for the fact that they play in the weak East, how much (if at all) better are the Celtics than the Spurs?

Top five teams: Cavs, Lakers, Nuggets, Magic, Hawks.

I watched what the Celtics did to the Lakers for a stretch last week, and it was better than I've seen the Spurs play since 2008. Like I said before, the Cetlics have at least five guys who could come to San Antonio and immediately be the best defender on the Spurs team.

A healthy Celtics team could win the championship. Their main problem is that KG has lost about two steps since 2008 and Ray Allen is becoming less and less effective offensively.

Well then how it is that you think they could win the championship? They're healthy now and they just can't sustain their effort for 48 minutes. Garnett may get slightly more mobile/explosive the more he plays, but the reality is people need to accept that it isn't just injury holding Garnett back, like it was Duncan, it's a flat out decline, bordering on O'Neal like proportions. Can you win a championship with no player playing at a superstar level and three of your top four players struggling? I don't see it.

Barring something unforeseen, unfortunately it's more than likely going to be the Lakers and Cavs in the Finals. The Nuggets and Magic look to be the only teams capable of breaking this up. I'd give the Nuggets a better chance than the Magic.

When you have as much mileage as their so-called big three does, they'll almost always be at least one of them ailing. But they're all at least playing now. Daniels is back, Davis, Allen (Tony). Realistically, the so-called big three are probably never going to be at 100% health for an extended period of time again, which means at least one will always be out of rhythm or struggling. It's probably time to accept that what you see is what you get from them.

They're healthy? Garnett can barely move and Pierce just came back from injury. KG obviously is worn down but he's also dealing with getting his knee hyperextended a few weeks ago ... so there's hope for him to recover. Pierce also has room for improvement.

@ the Hawks being more of a championship caliber team than the Celtics.

What makes you think that is going to change with regards to Garnett? Pierce, his foot will improve and when it does, something else will break down. I had Celtics/Spurs as the finals coming into the season, but it's just not going to happen. You need to stop seeing Garnett for what he was even early last season and adjust your expectation to what he is now: at his absolute best, he's a fringe top twenty player. Right now, he's a mere role player.

I know reading comprehension isn't your strong suit, but I never said the Hawks are more of a championship caliber team than the Celtics. I listed the top five teams currently, but that's not how I'd rank teams in terms of who I think can win a championship.

You favored the Spurs over the Lakers before the season? That was a homer selection. The Lakers have remained at least a notch ahead of the Spurs since the 2008 playoffs.

I don't need updates on the goings on around the league from you, genius.

I thoughts the pieces were in place to dethrone the Lakers, yes. I never considered the Spurs the favorites though.

I just told you what there was to comprehend in the last post. I'll repeat it, since you're slow: I never listed the top five teams as teams most likely to win the championship, but rather the top five current teams.

To win a championship, I'd go: Lakers, Cavs, Nuggets, Celtics, Magic.

As weary as the Celtics look, I've just never fully bought into the Magic, nor the Hawks. Both lack a go-to player in big moments the caliber of which is needed to win deep in the playoffs and both have an element of inexperience and immaturity to them as well. I only go Lakers over Cavs because I think they have more room for error, but I think the Cavs are the best team at this point and the Nuggets neck-and-neck with the Lakers for second. For the longest time, I was convinced only the Lakers, Celtics or Spurs (maybe the Cavs, if James pulled an '00 O'Neal or an '03 Duncan) were going to win the championship. But things have changed, namely with the Celtics and the Spurs.

I am pleased we did not sign Wallace who is out of shape worse than ever now and just chucks up stupid threes (When I see him anyways). Dyess is not great but he is doing better than Wallace.

Right now, I'd say only the Cavs, Lakers or Nuggets will win the championship. I'd still probably put the Spurs 6th or 7th at the absolute worst, yet I don't consider them contenders. My putting the Celtics 4th is really more a commentary on the lack of truly elite teams in the league right now, then it is my belief that the Celtics will have the energy needed to go four rounds after a grueling 82 game season. The playoffs are a battle of attrition.

This guy might be my new favorite poster. It's entertaining to see someone argue with himself. First he rants about how the Celtics don't have a chance while saying the only teams capable of stopping a showdown between the Lakers and Cavs in the Finals are the Nuggets and Magic. Then when he lists his top championship contenders, he puts the Celtics ahead of the Magic.

    That is just awesome.
