Amare Doesn’t Understand Perpetual Trade Talk
    SportingNews

Once again, Suns PF Amare Stoudemire has been a central figure in trade talks around the league—the Heat have been trying to deal for him, and trades have been talked with Philadelphia and Chicago, and, interestingly, the Cavaliers. Which doesn’t necessarily make sense to Stoudemire, who is averaging 21.2 points and 8.6 rebounds, and is set to appear in his fifth All-Star Game.

Asked if the continued trade talk is a slap in the face to him, Stoudemire said, “Somewhat it is. I don’t understand why. It hasn’t been explained to me. I don’t understand why, every year, there has to be trade talk with me involved. A little difficult to deal with, but that is the NBA and it is a business.”

“I don’t know if [the Suns] see me in their future plans. I don’t know what it is that they don’t see with me. It’s a question mark as far as why the trade talk is always around me every year. But it’s nothing I can control, I can’t change it. All I can do is stay focused and play.”

One sticking point in making a Stoudemire deal has been the fact that he can opt out of his contract and become a free agent. Any team that trades for Stoudemire, then, must have some assurance that he is willing to sign an extension, and he has been tough to pin down on that issue, according to league sources. “See, the one thing y’all don’t understand is both parties want to make a great decision for themselves,” Stoudemire said. “With that being said, all I want to do is win championships. … The Phoenix Suns’ goal? I am really not sure. But hopefully we can reach a common denominator and we’ll both be happy.”

Oh, I predict some fun with the le.

The Cavs, huh? Are they willing to give up Z and Varejao? That would be pretty risky.

With their recent loss to a Roy less Blazers team, I'm thinking Amare is as good as gone.

This is actually a fair statement, but it's just funny cause the Canadian Cancer is the reason why they lost to Portland, No-D-Steve didn't get Amare the ball enough. Oh well, most Phoenix fans' balls still tingle at watching Nash do everything, once Amare is traded they'll watch Nash do everything on a below .500 team.

Anderson Varajo isn't in the deal. The Cavs won't trade him. The Cavs are reluctant to trade Hickson, but won't trade Andy

It's obviously not fair to blame everything on Amare.

But he's the most expensive yet most attractive trade piece right now so he's going to be the whipping boy when it comes to trades.

    Cavs targeting Suns’ Stoudemire
    By Adrian Wojnarowski

As the Phoenix Suns engage in trade discussions with several teams for Amar’e Stoudemire – including negotiations with the Cleveland Cavaliers – general manager Steve Kerr has been exchanging contract extension proposals with the All-Star’s agent, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Suns made a multiyear offer last week, and Stoudemire’s representative, Happy Walters, replied with a counterproposal over the weekend. It is unclear what the Suns offered, but Stoudemire is believed to be using the three-year, $57 million extension Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol received this season as a framework for talks. There’s no indication the Suns’ offer has given Stoudemire pause about wanting to stay long-term with the team.

Nothing in the offer indicates that Stoudemire and the Suns are anywhere near an agreement. Stoudemire can opt out of his current contract’s $17.7 million final season and become part of this summer’s free-agent class. As much as anything, this appears to be motivation for the Suns to find a trading partner.

The Cavaliers have emerged as serious bidders for Stoudemire, and here’s a good reason for their pursuit: When presented with several trade proposals, LeBron James preferred Stoudemire, a league source said. It isn’t clear how center Shaquille O’Neal feels about the possibility of a Stoudemire deal. The two didn’t mesh well in Phoenix, where Stoudemire struggled to find space alongside Shaq.

The Cavs would probably have to part with a package that includes center Zydrunas Ilgauskas(notes), forward J.J. Hickson and a possible first-round draft pick. Cleveland is also engaged in discussions for several forwards, including Washington’s Antawn Jamison and Indiana’s Troy Murphy.

Privately, Stoudemire’s preferred destination is the Miami Heat, where he could pair with superstar Dwyane Wade in a far more warmer climate. Heat president Pat Riley has been relentless in his desire to make a deal for Stoudemire. He’s made available everyone on his roster but Wade, and yet it appears Miami’s offers simply aren’t attractive to the Suns.

What doesn’t hurt Cleveland’s chances to land Stoudemire is the relationship between the two GMs: Kerr and Cleveland’s Danny Ferry. They were teammates with the San Antonio Spurs and remain close friends. Over the past two years, the Suns have been sellers and the Cavs buyers, and they’ve been able to do business together – including last summer’s Shaq trade.

Why the would you actually WANT Big Z and JJ Hickson for Amare? Sure, Amare doesn't play great D but Big Z and JJ Hickson?

I can understand it from a salary dump standpoint; that's about it.

Yeah Kerr is too. As in "Hey Amare, you know how much Pau got? We'll give you half that since you only play offense."

hahahaha Big Z cant do anything but shoot wide open shots & JJ Hickson only scores cuz nobody guards him. 90% of his pts come off dunks. He'll look like Josh Powell on the suns. Sarver is one of the biggest Jews ive ever seen. I thank God everyday that Jerry Buss & Mitch Kupchak run my team hahaha

I for one am hoping this trade goes down hahaha. Shaq & Amare played terrible together on the suns. They'll be the worst pick n roll defensive duo in the league

Yeah, the Cavs are like the old Spurs in that they rely not on talent (other than LeBron) but chemistry and synergy.

Amare is probably one of the biggest disrupters of both in the league. And even if he wasn't, they would have to complete alter their style of play with less than half the season remaining. Since right now they look like prohibitive favors in the East, the only way this comes close to making sense is in trying to create more matchup problems for the Lakers.
