OK, as I mentioned in another thread I'm coming over to SA from germany for the first time in my life to see the Spurs vs OKC and PHX.

    What about a little game:

    This

    is me.

I'm going to invite up to 5 ST-members who recognize me on Feb 24th at the AT&T to (or is it for - my grammar really sucks) a free beer.

    What u say?

On my first ever NBA-Game I'm going to be filled with adrenaline, I don't think I need much beer to be amazed.
    But I'll have some anyway...

There is always Shiner Bock from just down the road. Kostos Spoetzel was a member of the Brewmasters Guild in Germany.

    I beg to differ

Lots of great American beer if you steer clear of swill like Budweiser, Miller, and Coors.

The joke about Budweiser is that they were sold. I wasn't really serious.

    Hertzliche Willkommen nach Texas!

If both "to" and "for" would work, although "to" usually needs a verb:

    "to have a free beer."

Best would be: "to have a free beer with me."

In this case there is also another good little grammar point to be made:

Wenn Amis etwas dir kaufen möchten, oft wurden sie "on" sagen. sws "the beer is ON me." Etwas idiomatisch, heh. Klingt es, ob das Biere auf deiner Kopf ist.

I'm going to invite up to 5 ST-members who recognize me on Feb 24th at the AT&T to have a free beer on me.
This comes from the beer's cost being on the tab (receipt, Empfang), but was corrupted/shortened a bit to being "on me" instead of "on my tab". This is somewhat ungrammatical, but commonly accepted and natural.

Hey man, what beer do you recommend from Germany? I haven't really tried many German beers, mainly Belgian beers when I got for imported, but the German beers I have had were great.
