He most likely will come back here. Knows the system, has good friends here, and the Mavs are great friends with his agent. Plus a deep run with a playoff team will show him off more than just a short bit with a non contender.
We would have to wait 30 days to acquire him though.

I would rather us get Anthony Morrow, who is rumored to be available for just $. Our TE + Cash could work.
Or maybe Cuban can be a boss and get both.

    Mavs would welcome back Gooden
    February, 16, 2010
    By Tim MacMahon
OKLAHOMA CITY -- If Drew Gooden negotiates a buyout with the Washington Wizards, he would be welcomed back to Dallas.

The Mavericks would have to wait 30 days before re-signing Gooden, who would be free to negotiate with other teams during that time. However, the Mavs would like for Gooden to return.

Gooden struggled defensively as a center, which is one of the reasons the Mavs pursued the seven-player deal with the Wizards that landed big man Brendan Haywood. But the Mavs could miss Gooden's scoring punch off the bench.

Without Gooden, the Mavs don't have much depth at power forward. Shawn Marion is likely to play most of the minutes there when Dirk Nowitzki is resting.

The Wizards are Gooden's eighth team in eight seasons, but he left Dallas on excellent terms. The Mavs appreciated the professionalism of Gooden, who accepted his role as a reserve after preseason talk that he might start most games at center.

"Drew did a great job," owner Mark Cuban said Saturday night. "He laid it out there every game for us to try to fill in as a 5. Going into the season we thought that would work and it just didn’t play out as planned."

lol stretch got lucky because when he opened the thread there was just rumors that they wont discuss a buyout.

Gooden and Stevenson are good friends. He knows the system and playing deep in the playoffs would problably help more for a new contract somewhere next year than playing a couple more minutes on a team like Bobcats or Bucks.

Dallas can keep Damp out until he is 100% healthy.

I think Roddy wont see minutes anymore as offguard anymore.

I forgot about Stevenson. He will only get minutes if he doesn't suck complete (unlikely)

But you never know, he could turn it around.

His back injury ed him up, but always good to have such a player. You can throw him in against Denver just to with unstable guys like JR for a few minutes.

Better than to have another useless white toast like Carroll or a Brian Cardinal type.
