I don't know about losing RMJ. He seems to have shot us out of alot of jams and would leave us lacking at the 3 point line.

Mason + Bonner for Nick Collison + 1st.Take Nick Collison off their hands for an expiring contract and get one of their first round picks.
Mason & Bonner are both out of town then plus a first. Plus Collison is just the kind of stiff that would be a mistake that Pop, the FO, and a lot of Spurs fans are in love with, plus his contract only runs one more year. Plus this deal gets the Spurs slightly cheaper luxury tax obligations.

Not to be a cynic, but the Spurs may actually want to keep their 1st Rounders this year. We'll mostly likely be picking higher this year than in recent years.
That trade suggests a first rounder coming to the Spurs from OKC as the price for taking on Collison's contract and freeing up cap space for the Thunder.

That would free up RC to burn a first on whichever terribly undersized 25 year old 2-guard that RC swears is the best shooter in America and worthy of drafting even higher!
Put another way, (If this could happen)
If the Ty Thomas trade would take giving up a pick, and this trade would get a pick, effectively
Ty Thomas(EC and the better player, Would be possible to resign) or Collison(1 year left) + 2 picks(20, 22).
What do you do?

sorry man, it's just funny. Not so much that RC is declaring they would have taken McClinton if Blair wasn't there, but the whole "He's the best shooter in the draft" stuff when Stephen Curry is in the very same draft. That was giggle time.

Just for speculation purposes, if Mason is traded, would the Spurs want a similar player in return, or would the Spurs let Hairston get a shot at filling Mason's role, along with Hill, Finley, etc...?

well losin' mason won't make us better over night.. if we get something stupid in return.. im gonna be really pissed.. i seriously wouldn't trade mason at this point

Realistically speaking, 20 minutes a night is great for a 30 year old slow, unathletic player who can't defend and who is supposed to be a shooter when he's actually shooting 43%.
I'm not sure what more Roger wants but I think this is his first step out of the NBA.
Agreed, hes a average to below average playmaker, can sometimes create his own shot and although he plays hard on D, he just isnt very good. But if he believes in himself and believes that he'll get a better opportunity somewhere else then so be it.. i just hope we get something of value back for him.
If this is true then I honestly have to laugh. Exactly how much minutes does Roger expect to get when he doesn't play any defense?
Come on guys. Mason didn't ask to be traded. He knew he would be trade bait and saw the writing on the wall. I think he just tried to preempt it. I mean only a few days ago he stated he wanted to stay in SA for his career and try to win a Championship.
Anyone who thinks Mason orchestrated all these trade talks on his own is delusional.
I think the win a championship quote was rather old.

Marc Stein: The Miami Heat have indeed expressed interest in San Antonio's Roger Mason, but the Miami deal that interested the Spurs most is no longer possible.
The Spurs were hoping to tempt Miami into absorbing Mason's $3.8 million expiring contract into a $4.3 million trade exception that would have enabled the teams to complete a deal without San Antonio needing to take back another player. A future second-round pick from the Heat would have completed the transaction.
But the Heat, dealing with their own luxury-tax issues like San Antonio and reluctant to add to their payroll, ultimately declined.
And the trade exception in question -- created through the departure of Marcus Banks in Miami's Shawn Marion trade with Toronto on Feb. 15, 2009 -- expired Monday at midnight.
The Spurs and Mason's agent, Mark Bartelstein, have mutually agreed to pursue trades before Thursday's 3 p.m. trading deadline, but it'll take a new trade construction to get Mason to Miami now if the Heat want to try again.
San Antonio is more than $10 million over the luxury-tax threshold, so the deal proposed Monday to Miami would have cut their tax bill by nearly 40 percent. Miami is roughly $2.8 million over the tax threshold.

Well, he shouldn't be. Besides his contract could be used to bring another useful player (for ex. T. Thomas).
I think that this trade proposal (Mason for cap space) and the fact that the Spurs are shopping practically everybody makes me think that they're giving up on this season.
