There were several tense conversations between Steve Kerr and agent Happy Walters over Amar'e Stoudemire situation Wednesday, sources say.

Wow Kings trading for T-Mac came out of left field! This probably pushes the Knick to do that Thomas for Harrington deal.
The Kings trade leaves NY still looking to dump Jeffries.

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMa...radeId=yf83nyz

Jeffries + 2011 first round pick swap rights + 2012 first for Mason, Finley, Mahinmi?

Jeffries could be useful, and this would get us some value for the expirings of players we apparently don't want back (or at least shouldn't for Finley)...

I've seen multiple reports that more than likely Amar'e is going to stay put. However, here's a couple interesting notes from Chris Mannix:

    ChrisMannixSI

Been calling around, most execs believe STAT stays put before the deadline. Some figure PHX feeling a little burned out on Cavs talks

    ChrisMannixSI

Still, prevailing feeling is any team with exp contracts and a draft pick will take a shot to see if PHX just wants to dump STAT

Spurs don't have the expirings to match Amare's deal (unless you include Manu), but given what the Spurs have been shopping, expirings + McDyess might be in the cards. Not that I'm necessarily advocating that, of course, but it's potentially an option if the Spurs wanted to go all out.

Trade deadline is tomorrow and every spursfan in the world are expecting something to be done... I wish rc and pop would still push to improve the team this season even though the offseason was a failure...They could still make one final move to bring this team to contention in some ways and if that doesnt work, rebuilding should start sooner not later.

I still believe and you should...Its all or nothing guys

    GO SPURS GO!
Yep, what I'm finding crazy is playoff teams are doing trades to make themselves better. Heck Cavs did a deal even though they are having a good season. Yet Spurs looking like they are standing pat.

I would understand if Spurs were having a good season but this team has been so mediocre, and to just stay with what has been so poor and to see good teams trying to get better. I just don't know...

I just hope the reason for staying pat is becuase we couldn't get any team to take any bait.

    1. Look at the players that have moved

    2. Are there players that would have helped the Spurs?

    3. Could the Spurs have beaten the price paid for that player?

    4. Would it have been worth the necessary price?

For me, given the transactions that have actually taken place, I don't see any situations where you can answer "yes" to questions 2, 3, and 4.

Just get that done with to improve a little bit and let's move on to the rest of the season, I'm tired of waiting for big deals involving impact players

Everyone keeps waiting for a sleeper to steal Amar’e Stoudemire in the last hours prior to the trade deadline. How about the San Antonio Spurs? After all, they had privately considered making a bid for Stoudemire.

Still, while the Spurs and Suns did have a cursory conversation in this process, discussions never got going because San Antonio is unwilling to move two of its best young players, guard George Hill and forward DeJuan Blair.

Stoudemire is unhappy with the way he’s been jerked around the last few trade deadlines, and it will undoubtedly be an uncomfortable final several weeks with the Suns.

Hill and Blair for a re-signed Stoudemire would be somewhat tempting. Hill and Blair for a half season rental? No way.

This is good news to me. I'm glad the Spurs seemingly think as highly about Hill and Blair as we do.

A little bit futher down in the article it lists Troy Murphy, although it says he's going to stay put.

I don't know if the Spurs have contacted the Pacers about him and been rebuffed, but he's one of the few players left out there that fits the system and legitimately improves the team.

There's no way Amare doesn't sign an extension with us if he comes here, I'd give up Hill and Blair for him in two seconds. Stoudemire will probably be in the league longer then Blair will, and despite Hill being an up and coming player, you can't say no. The problem is the only way to make it work is sending Ginobili, which I'm def not willing to do along with those two young guys.

Don't get me wrong. I love Hill and Blair. And as a Spurs fan I hate Amar'e.

But let's be honest. Hill and Blair are both undersized for their positions. Blair might not have a career after his first contract expires. Given the rapidly-closing window of opportunity for Tim Duncan, you gotta consider doing what's necessary to get someone like Amar'e.

with the trade deadline approaching and Amare still in PHO, I could see the Suns trying to get something back instead of losing him this summer. There maybe a chance of him landing in SA, the question is if not G Hill and Blair then who?

I would SURELY give up dejuan for Amare. We all know in 5-6 years that dejuans bball career may be over. I'd do that in a heartbeat, losing Hill on the other hand is a no no i'd say.

Also posted in Tyrus Thomas thread:

    @RicBucher

Sources say Cha is likeliest destination for Bulls' Ty Thomas right now, in exchange for expiring contracts. Flip Murray/Acie Law works.

Deal would be Thomas for Law, Murray and protected future 1st-round pick. Not done, but other suitors for Ty believe it will happen.

It's not my money, but Holt said he'd go over the lux tax for this year and the next if it meant getting Tim another ring.

Obviously it's an impediment, but it adds yet another trade chip for next season, which could end up being flipped for a more long-term piece...or let expire to get back under the lux tax.
