Weird...
Are there any deaths? I hope not.

I was waiting for the first Obama post.
I'm glad this nut didn't kill anyone (except for maybe himself).
Call the ambalamps?
One does not call the ambalamps.

I haven't seen anything officially said, and hopefully it's just a rumor but it seems (coworker has a friend who is with the IRS in that building) as if there will be at least a death, not including the pilot. It would be amazing/incredible if this entire thing went down and no one died except for the pilot and hopefully that ends up being the case.
Can he write the plane off as a total loss?
Guess I have to drive through the neighborhood to get home tonight.
We almost bought a house on the street where this clown lived. No joke, if it wouldn't have been for the fact that the house we looked at backed to a very busy Metric, we'd probably be wondering WTF was going on.
The gist of this sicko's problem seems to have been that he was classified as a contractor, thus was responsible for making his own quarterly tax payments, didn't, and then got pissed off when he had to pay back taxes and penalties. And the last straw was apparently caused by his wife's unreported income which apparently no taxes were paid on, either.
Earn money, pay income taxes (and self-employment tax if a contractor). Seems easier to do than going on a murderous rampage.
They were talking about this for the whole show on the Charlie Hodge Show today and they mentioned that dude had $12,000 (twelve thousand) in IRS debt. I dunno if that gets into "repo all your " territory but what kind of pussy of a man kills himself and tries to bring a bunch of people with him to over twelve ing grand?
Any ins ution that works to collect debts will work with you to pay it off and it's just shocking that someone with a nice house and a personal airplane couldn't find a way to pay off twelve grand. Most red-blooded, beer-drinking Americans probably have at least that much debt and you don't see ass tons of people trying to level the IRS building in their cities.
IMO if you're going to kill yourself just eat like 35 xanax. You'll fall asleep and die fairly painlessly.
Yeah, the amounts he was complaining about ($40K in the other instance) are small for someone in the field he was in. Sounds like he was the kind of guy living beyond his means and not saving much so when the tax bills came due, it was oopsie time to liquidate a puny 401-(k).
The house is (was) a fairly average Austin home, appraised at $232K. Nice but not extravagant.
It was a civilian suicide. Where were you on 9/11?
The guy gripes about how salaries are less in Austin than in California-- duh!
This from CNN.com
The California Franchise Tax Board said Stack's Software Systems Service Corporation license was suspended June 1, 2004, for not paying taxes in 1996 and 2002, CNN affiliate KCRA reported. And another of Stack's companies in California -- known as Prowess Engineering, which became Embedded Art -- had its license suspended November 1, 2000, for a failure to file a 1994 tax return, KCRA reported.
there are some crazy people out there.
good song I keep it under my TO-GO list in my ipod
Have we heard from boutons or nbadan? This could be one of them.
Looks like FB has removed the page. Well done.
This story has all kinds of tragedy in it, but I have to admit a little chuckle at this:
You always have commments from people saying how someone was such a nice guy, and they could never imagine him doing anything awful, but here you have this.Neighbor of guy talked to wife after everything started getting linked together. He asked her (according to his interview) "is he capable of this?" She said yes.
Looks like I got it backwards.
According to article in today's Statesman, it was actually the opposite: this 1986 tax law change forced technical contractors to have taxes withheld rather than allowing the contractors to file quarterly estimated taxes. Seems like much ado about nothing considering that whether the taxes are withheld per check or per quarterly estimated taxes, you gotta pay them. He just didn't want to have to pay income tax, period.
The change required companies that used high-tech contractors to withhold part of their salaries for income tax purposes, said Calvin Johnson, a law professor at the University of Texas who specializes in federal tax laws.
Previously, those workers did not have tax money withheld from their paychecks but made quarterly payments on their own based on their estimated income and could take deductions for items such as home offices that significantly reduced their taxes.
The loss of those extra deductions could have left someone owing money to the IRS, said Joseph Brophy, a Dallas certified public accountant.
Congress passed the 1986 law in an attempt to lower tax rates, Johnson said.
Lawmakers were upset at "big rich Silicon Valley people avoiding the withholding system, so... they said that high-tech engineers should be judged by normal rules," he said.
It appeared Stack was looking for a way out of the withholding system, Johnson said.
"If Stack had intended to pay tax on the quarterly payment system, he would have had no advantage from getting out of withholding. Indeed, the paperwork burdens go up," Johnson said. "I suspect he therefore had no intent to pay any tax, even when an independent contractor."
I couldn't stand all the "criminal profilers" on TV talking about how his "constricted view" of options and obvious insanity caused this and how we all need to watch our neighbors more carefully because the Intel Community can't stop people like this unless they are reported by just normal folks like you and me...
But I ask, at what point do you report someone for a "constricted view" of options instead of helping to open up their options. Maybe it's because when you try to help them you realize everything is a ed up and no one wants to listen and work toward a solution? This looks all too convenient to blame on the anti-government/Tea party crowd...dude just tweeked out (he ed about the murder of people by government and healthcare industry, but tried to kill people himself), and now his alleged words are being used selectively to show us all that the people next door could be home grown terrorists.
Also, does anyone know what the casualty/injury list was like? That building got torched so I expect there to a number of injuries and possible deaths.
