Because he is the Spurs starting center, as laughable as that sounds.

Maybe this means Pop is going to dust off Ian and give him some court time - NOT!
Ian at least will play on back2backs

Leave it to the Spurs to do the opposite of what was expected. You think big move and/or dump Mahinmi. They make a small move to allow Mahinmi to suit up for games.

At least Mahinmi actually will have a chance to earn minutes. You can't earn minutes in a sport coat.

Emo Spurs fan goes even more Emo.

They open a spot for Mahinmi and they still aren't happy.

As for what we've seen, Mahinmi has already earned minutes. Hasn't gotten em.

    Doubt he'll get them now.

Sure, I'm guessing they "tried" to get Lebron too
of course but in the lbj case we haven't seen 5 threads of 250 posts each like for the cp3 vs. tony stuff on ST

I wonder if the Spurs could have dumped either Ratliff or Mahinmi and they picked Ratliff. That would be somewhat surprising.

I doubt that Ian will get any PT out of this. Nothing since his New Jersey game has indicated that he is going to get anywhere near the rotation. It's a straight salary dump.

Great we lose even more depth at Center. Bad day for Spurs fans
Since Ratliff and his 31 DNPs were a pivotal part of the rotation...

    What a freakin' letdown.

It's not hard to understand though. This whole thing is going South fast. Be that as it may, they're obviously looking to "cut back" on the payroll to minimize the luxury tax implications. As aggressively as the FO worked and spent to improve the roster this summer, now that those changes have failed, they're obviously moving just as aggressively to shave down the payroll.
sadly the thing is : season is over, time to limit the financial impacts of this whole failed summer

Its all up to Ian now (if he plays in the games that is...)

There's no choice now. Mahinmi has to suit up. The Spurs have 13 players and Hairston is in Austin.

That or it frees up more minutes for Finley at the 4.

Larry Brown likes Ratliff. Spurs save a few bucks. That's all that's going on.

There goes the plan out the window of putting Ratliff on Bynum or Gasol in the playoffs. Way to go Pop Mr. for brains.

Hmm, I'd be pretty happy if that were true, but that has to involve other players
That BS I think. Never is it stated except for that forum, which a guy says he was just joking.

Larry Brown probably wanted Ratliff more.
