He's got more of a shot to contribute now than he did before does he not?

I guess I choose not to be miserable and a total depressed emo.

Go ahead if you guys want to.
It's like timvp has a little dumb clone that follows him around and sort of repeats what he says while expressing undying love for Pop at the same time.

Seriously, please try to generate an original thought.

If it's the only Spurs move, it sucks ass and Spurs are nowhere near a serious contender.

Some vets will also be bought out before the March 1st deadline. This trade could also be a sign that Spurs have some vet PF/C in sight who are better than Ratliff for the 5th PF/C spot.

By doing this trade, Spurs will save slighty more than $1M (if they haven't send some cash).

His skills of fouling 4 times in that 30 second span. Face it, Ian is a foul prone big that can't stay on the court more than 3 minutes at a time, how is that good for team chemistry? He will remain on the bench, the Spurs will have two open roster spots for when players start to get waived and I'm sure we will try another Gooden-esque experiement for the late season push. This just frees up some money for that.
I've got news for you. Team chemistry is already questionable because of the bunch of underperforming parts. Improving that will have nothing to do with something as insignificant as what Ian does should he get playing time. This team is on the verge of sliding into draft lottery.

That said, I understand the salary dump, the tax-reduction implications and the opening up of a roster spot. I hope Ian this move will translate into some PT for Ian, but as someone else said earlier, I'll believe it when I see it.

Traded a guy that didn't play to begin with.

But again, if you want to sit there and cry and and act like Roger Mason's butt hurt man on the side, go right ahead.

If nothing else, blowouts will now be more entertaining. We'll be able to extrapolate Mahinmi's two minutes of playing time in a blowout into him being HOFer.
You mean when we get blown out by the good teams? I'm not looking forward to seeing Ian then...

Spurs trade Ratliff for future pick
By Mike Monroe on Feb 18, 10 03:28 PM | Permalink | Comments (0) Save & Share Yahoo! BuzzYahoo! Newsvine del.icio.us Facebook Google Reddit Fark
The NBA's trade deadline nearly came and passed Thursday with the Spurs staying on the sidelines, but a last-minute deal that will send Theo Ratliff to the Charlotte Bobcats was awaiting official NBA approval late Thursday afternoon, according to league sources.

With a flurry of last-minute deals flooding the league's basketball operations department, official approval wasn't expected until Thursday evening. NBA teams are prohibited from discussing deals until they are finalized by the league office.

The Spurs signed Ratliff, a 35-year-old veteran of 15 NBA seasons, to a free agent contract on July 25. He had played in only 21 of 52 games this season, averaging 1.6 points and 1.9 rebounds.

The Spurs are expected to receive a future draft pick from the Bobcats, giving them some relief from the luxury tax they will have to play this summer. Under NBA collective bargaining rules, only $825,497 of Ratliff's veteran minimum salary of $1.3 million counted against their salary cap. Combined with the recent buyout of Marcus Haislip's two-year deal, the Spurs will have saved about $1.7 million in luxury tax payments.

This was my next thought after thinking salary dump. They will probably be checking the waiver wire over the next week.

I was thinking the same thing about big Z. I know I'd rather have him or even Gooden over the Rattler.
