Yeah, Ginobili with 35 minutes is just stupid, Mahinmi 35 minutes is beyond stupid
Almost, but not quite, as stupid as worrying so much about limiting players' minutes that you forget to actually let them win games or play together. If 35 minutes a game for the next week is going to cause them to drop dead, then they aren't good enough to win a championship, so what the are you saving them for?

And Mahinmi's going to have to work his way up to 35 minutes a game since he's going to face foul trouble for a while.

Mahimni. Wow you really do hate Bonner. Seroiusly, it would great if Mahimni can somehow work his way into the rotation in the 2nd-half of the season, but as a starter? Cmon now.
If I'm making the decisions, Mahinmi already worked his way into the rotation four months ago. Since it hasn't happened, I'll put my money on his rotations, rebounding and shot blocking and won't run a single play for him on offense and take my chances.

The Spurs have been running so many ed up mind games for so long, they've got Spurs fans thinking it's the way to do things. You play centers at center, and guards at guard. You play starters to start the game and bring reserves and role players off the bench. Amazing stuff, I know, but it somehow manages to work.

Based on what limited times I've actually seen Mahimni play, how could you justify giving Mahimni 35 minutes a game. He'd be lucky to crack 15 IMO.

Then your opinion is flawed. I'm not sure how to change your mind, other than to tell you to watch the second half of the Denver game. JR Smith got a dunk by getting past Ginobili because Bonner didn't rotate. Carmelo Anthony got a dunk by getting past RJ because Bogans didn't rotate. In the 4th Aaron Afflalo got past George Hill and Ian was standing there to meet him, hands up in the air. ' o, I'll be your shot-blocker this evening'. Good enough to buy the mother er some minutes. He's more than welcome to play his way out of the lineup, but with the way the Spurs are defending, I'm not going to make him play his way in.

Here's what makes him better than any other big on the roster not named Tim Duncan:

    • He knows the defense inside and out.
    • He's tall.

My opinion flawed? Really? Okay. But seriously Mahimni definitely has some physical skills, but its the mental part that Mahimni seems to be lacking IMO. Watching him in preseason, he seemed to be alittle lost out there at times. And I'm curious, how exactly do you know that Mahimni knows the defense inside and out? Your opinion or do you have evidence?

15-15 that would make us a HUGE SUCKING 46-36. same record as the Suns last year when they missed the playoffs.

Mahinmi clearly was going through the motions in preseason, and it's ultimately his fault that he's in the situation he's in for that reason. That said, the Spurs have no business telling anyone that they're a defense first team with a healthy Mahinmi unable to crack a rotation where Bonner is starting.

Again, he rotates to where he's supposed to be. He tells the other guys where to go. He doesn't lose his man when he's watching the ball. The fundamental defensive mistakes that so many Spurs make Ian manages not to make in the short minutes that he gets.
