    Pretty good read here..

UFC 110 announced the arrival of heavyweight Cain Velasquez. He’s been on everyone’s radar, but I don’t think anyone thought he would be capable of knocking out legend Antonio Nogueira on the feet.

The UFC’s heavyweight division is officially stockpiled and with fresh young talent that seems to have no trouble taking out the traditional divisional favorites. But there is still one guy that eludes them: Fedor Emelianenko.

Fedor is everyone’s number one heavyweight, and for good reason. His domination in Pride, and undefeated streak are the stuff of legend. But with Strikeforce’s shallow pool of fighters, for how long can Fedor hang on to the number one spot?

Velasquez and Frank Mir both did what Fedor never could: finish Antonio Nogueira. And I know most fans think Nogueira is finished, but he’s still relatively young and he’s never had better stand-up in his career. Could it be that guys like Mir and Velasquez are that good?

This time next year, the heavyweight division will be sorted out as Brock Lesnar puts his le on the line against the winner of Shane Carwin/Frank Mir, or perhaps Cain Velasquez. And I can’t forget about the ridiculous stand-up of Junior Dos Santos.

Does the man that goes through this gauntlet deserve to unseat Fedor Emelianenko?

Also by this time next year Fedor will have fought a possible top ten heavyweight in Fabricio Werdum, and then there is an outside chance that he will face another possible top ten guy in Alistair Overeem (although Overeem’s reluctance to fight in the U.S. makes this fight a potential longshot).

At some point strength of schedule has to count for something and if someone runs through the UFC’s now-stacked heavyweight division, then I have no problem ranking that fighter number one in the world. I can’t imagine that Fedor will lose any sleep over this, but if he does, then he can join Gegard Mousasi in thanking his friends at M-1 Global for nothing.

    Oh please...

He knocked out an aging veteran who got his ass cleaned two fights earlier, and luckily beat a geriatric in the fight before. There is no way on Earth he bangs with Fedor, Mir, or Brock. All three of those guys will have his ass for lunch.

Im sorry, Mir has never really impressed me. I dont see him being much of an issue for Cain. Brock will be a pretty even fight, at this point i give the edge to Brock, but i wouldnt be surprised if Cain handled him as well.

Mir is the best HW BJJ there is IMO. That said he gets smashed in every other aspect of his game. Mir wouldnt be able to stand with Fedor or Cain. Mir is prob going to lose to Barwin.

You've never heard of Roger Gracie have you? lol...

I am a Mir fan though, but he's not #1 in the world right now, assuming he gets by Shane Carwin he's top 3 though. The winner of the rematch between he and Lesnar would be a legit #2 but neither of them have the dominance or important wins to make them #1. That won't happen until Fedor goes to the UFC and fights one of them or he retires.

I have to agree. Mir's had a decent run in the UFC, but who has he fought? Quite a few over-the-hills with the occasionally decent one-trick pony.

    Win Cheick Kongo
    Loss Brock Lesnar
    Win Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
    Win Brock Lesnar
    Win Antoni Hardonk
    Loss Brandon Vera
    Win Dan Christison
    Loss Marcio Cruz
    Win Tim Sylvia
    Win Wes Sims (twice)
    Win David Abbott
    Loss Ian Freeman
    Win Pete Williams
    Win Roberto Traven
    Win Dan Quinn
    Win Jerome Smith

Remember though, Tim Sylvia wasn't decent win Frank Mir fought him. He was the undefeated UFC Heavyweight Champion and Mir broke his arm in about a minute into the fight.

Fedor is still the man. I wish we was in the UFC. Strikeforce is a big fail.
