R Wallace the year he was traded to Detroit.

The spurs should have gone hard after him at that time. The window was still open for a le then. He would have brought another le to the Spurs.

The biggest mistake was letting Stephen Jackson walk after he rejected the Spurs' 3 year/10 mil offer.... I imagine something like 4 years/20 mil might have given the Spurs a 6'8" wing player-- a thing they are still trying to find-- and most likely another championship or two.

Corey Maggette via free agency. Take him over RJ.
Never had a chance at him; the Spurs didn't have nearly the cap space to give him the contract he ended up signing. RJ was brought in via trade (cap space was irrelevant).

You're obviously not troubled by the facts of the actual trade as compared to assets the Spurs had on hand at the time.

Revisionist history is better than actual history.

I have no doubts that had the Spurs retained SJax, there would have been an extended run on more championships in consecutive years.

It was Jackson's agent that refused to negotiate and would not take calls from Pop and R.C. The mistake was Jackson's. His career path and career earnings would have both been much better if he had been willing to negotiate.

It wouldn't have taken much to get him. He was given away for cheap.
