Don't these guys get their ankles taped every game?

I don't see the shoe being at fault here.

Surely this is pandemic and spreading to soccer, tennis, and other sports, right?

sorry to sidetrack the thread, but im looking to buy a new pair of basketball shoes. Any suggestions?

i was tending towards high tops but judging by the number of fans of the hyperize, i may have to rethink that stance.
I'd suggest the Kobe V's. If they're too pricey for you ($130), you might be able to get some Kobe IV's for under $100. Both are great shoes. I use to wear Jordans before, untill I got the 4's. The Kobe 1's wern't so bad either.

Question, has anyone out there tried footgloves / natural running shoes in basketball?
    http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/pro...s_footwear.cfm

They claim a lot less stress on the foot/ankle/knee by allowing the user to run in a natural pattern, not being locked in by the stiffness of the sole...
Those aren't really made for basketball. Basketball players NEED support and cushioning because running at a constant pace puts far less stress and strain on joints and feet than jumping and the various things that happen in a game.

To be honest, I don't think there's been a hightop that's saved my ankle from getting sprained.

I don't think a high top or lowtop can save you from a a sprain.

Tape is probably the best method of minimizing sprains and even the tape ain't gonna save you when you land on another player's foot.

true, but the difference between a mild and a severe sprain is not to be neglected and the hightops do that. Moreover, hightops protect against injuring your foot when someone lands on it... i know it's rare but when you are bigman people hit your ankles alot, you get hit once twice thrice.. the ankle starts to hurt and then the chances of a sprain increase exponentially.
