Kobe Bryant 19-58 32.8%
how pathetic
Highest FG Percentage on Go-Ahead Shots in Final 10 Seconds of Fourth Quarter/OT
While his performance this year has been admirable, data from previous seasons shows that Kobe Bryant's reputation as the best late-game closer in the NBA may be undeserved. While he's certainly made the most shots in these situations, he's also taken many more of these shots than anyone else in the league over the past 10 years.
Category FG-FGA Pct.
Carmelo Anthony 11-21 52.4
Ray Allen 12-29 41.4
Tony Parker 9-22 40.9
Chris Paul 8-21 38.1
Tim Duncan 8-23 34.8
Jason Terry 7-21 33.3
Kobe Bryant 19-58 32.8
source?
When it comes to winning, quan y is greater than quality.
The real question is, if you give those other players 58 attempts at being clutch can they do better than 32.8%
It's actually not about percentages at all in my opinion.
It is about winning games. For instance, Kobe has won 6 games this year with his game winning shots. He may have taken x amount of shots but he's won 6.
In contrast, how many games has Melo won with his 50%+ efficiency?
Quan y is much greater than quality when it comes to winning, there are no style points.
Again, if the other players had 58 attempts they'd win more games than Kobe did with his 58 attempts.
sons I'm shocked Kobe is even in the 30's ... I figured his percentage would be around 10-15%
dont matter to me..these stats are based in 10 seconds or less...how bout shots made with the last minute of the game? How bout shots made in the last 2 mins of a close game? Meaningless stats.
Please explain why shots in the last minute are more meaningful? Or are you saying stats are meaningless in general?
what this stat really shows is how ty of a leader that Kobe is, because he cant consistently keep his team focused for a full game, or that he cant keep his team from being in these situations.
krofl
One thing these stats show is that
1. Kobe is the least scared to take the last shot
2. He has done it the most times as well
Yes, he may not have the highest percentage, but he has delivered the most times. I mean seriously, Jason Terry has a higher percentage but would you rather have him taking the last shot than Kobe?
Those stats are meaningless to me
In a close game, I would give the ball to Kobe, over Melo, Paul, Parker ,etc.....
There is so many ways you have to look at.
+1
And I take achievements over stats
Kobe has made more GW shots than the other dudes combined
duncan and parker more clutch than kobe. =]
im saying that you can skew stats anyway you want it to prove a point. Yes his percentage is low, but he is the guy they gave it too 77 times. That in itself means something.
Bump said it best...you really rather give the shot to Jason Terry then Kobe?
good to see knowledgeable fans not taking this for face value.
Yeah those stats are stupid.
Kobe takes alot and he makes alot. Part of that is because for much of this decade he's had a horrible supporting cast. His percentage isn't great because everybody on the opposing team knows it's going to him. Even so, tbh I'd rather take Kobe going 1 vs 5 than give Vujacic an open look.
Carmelo is clutch too, but I'd still want Kobe taking the final shot over most any of the other guys on that list.
I was actually shocked to see Chris Paul had taken so many of those shots, but then I remembered that Jannero Pargo hasn't been around the past few years.
It's also crazy to see TP and Duncan on that list.
Before this year, Kobe's clutch shooting hasn't been all that great, but many of the clutch shots he had made before this season were very memorable. Part of what brings Kobe's clutch shooting down especially in previous seasons was the fact that he didn't trust teammates and he would make an extra pass even if the play called for it. I would bet money on the fact that Kobe would by far have the most clutch shot attempts against double and triple teams and the most fading away from those doubles and triples, heck sometimes with all five guys on defense focused on him. Kobe isn't scared to fail. This season, Kobe has been phenomenal in late game clutch situations. But this season hasn't been any different in terms of his confidence and his approach to those situations. He's always wanted the basketball in clutch situations. Not until the last couple seasons since the threepeat run has Kobe been also willing to make the right play in those situations.
I would bet many of those other guys with better clutch shooting primarily shoot fairly open shots or shooting against one-on-one man defense or drives to the basket.
You can hate on Kobe for a lot of things. I think it's pretty stupid to call him out when it comes to being clutch though.
What are you saying? You're trying to give other players 58 attempts?
That's like me saying if Jordan had 6 less Finals appearances, he'd have 6 less rings.
There's a reason why great players are in a position to win. You can't just "give" opportunities to do something great.![]()
If Sasha Vujacic made 2 out of 4 clutch shots, would he be more clutch then Kobe? I guess XFactor would give Sasha the go ahead shot if his life depended on it.
Kobe dresses like a pimp. This is a big game for the Lakers coming up. Might need Kobe's clutchness to avoid Denver really putting it on them so far this regular season.
nuggets fan did you go look this up when they were having the pregame talk on espn
