Man, he struggled so bad last year, under Ryan's 3-4 D, that he lost his startin job!

    Didn't Ryan play a 3-4 D & doesnt Arizona play the same D?

Ryan runs a hybrid D. When Mangini was running a true 3-4 D he played well. And he didn't lose the starting job, he had a conflict with the coaches. When it mattered most in the playoffs, Rhodes was in and played well.

Boldin makes Baltimore a lot better but only if they keep Derrick Mason. If they don't re-sign Mason, they're just spinning their wheels.

Washington wants Antonie Bethea, and if they sign him they have to turn over the #4 pick to Indy. As much as I like Bethea, I'd be fine with losing him for #4 overall in this draft.

Bethea would be a great fit as Sean Taylor's replacement since Landry would get to play more at the line of scrimmage and Bethea would get to roam back there, but DAMN, Indy loses Bethea and replaces him with Eric Berry. That's sick for them.

vinny is not in charge anymore.

skins will pick bradford or okung or try like to trade down.

i love that the skins are not throwing the money around as the media had predicted last week.

i have a sigh of relief going on over here.

they will build a TEAM, and not just assemble players looking to get paid after a standout performance in a contract year...

    finally.

+1 to them then, I felt bad for Skins fans having to watch their team try to build through free agency every year. This is just me but I'd still take Eric Berry if I were them. That D was so sick when it had Landry and Taylor and they'd basically get that back.

    Dude, he lost his job!
    Here, I'll give a quote:

Jets get two picks for Rhodes

    Associated Press

"After Ryan was hired as the Jets' coach last year, he immediately compared Rhodes to Pro Bowler Ed Reed. He said Rhodes could fill the playmaking role Reed excelled in under Ryan for several years in Baltimore.
The high praise was the result of the 12 interceptions, nine sacks and five forced fumbles Rhodes had in his first four seasons. But Rhodes struggled to live up to that hype, producing no turnovers through the first 10 games.
The coaches began to have doubts about the desire of Rhodes, who has aspirations of having an acting career after football. So Ryan and defensive coordinator Mike Pettine pulled him from the base defensive package in favor of Eric Smith.
Rhodes was on the sideline for New York's opening defensive snap against Carolina on Nov. 29, the first time in his NFL career that he didn't start."

Jamal Williams close to signing with the Broncos, waiting for the physical..great signing IMO..he's no longer a dominant player, but he should be good enough to play 1st and 2nd for most of the game..it also sticks it to San Diego, so that's the best part..

Jarvis Green is meeting with the Broncos at some point today too, hopefully McDaniels gets him..

Looks like it's going to be an offensive draft..

Thomas Jones signed with the Chiefs today, and Willie Parker looks like he might do the same...hopefully these guys are insurance for Charles. If they end up taking snaps from him I'm going to be ing pissed

The Willie Parker visit has been canceled.

Supposedly TJ is there simply to back up JC. But I have my doubts. I'm also a little iffy about this signing for the same reasons. JC could be a stud, but if he's reduced to a 15 carry back, we'll never see it. I suspect that we're going to be a heavy run team now. Upwards of 32 carries per games. It wouldn't be bad if JC can still get 18-20 carries, and TJ gets 10-12.

Charles isn't the kind of back that needs 20+ carries to be effective, he's not a grinder, he'll be all the better with TJ to take some of the load.
it's a 2 back NFL now anyways, not too many Eddie Georges or Larry Johnsons left, and even if there were, it just isn't very successful to run a power back all day and hope the defense wears down before he does.

Agreed, I've been saying Charles is a Chris Johnson clone. The guy can run through and around defenders, been a stud since his HS days in Port Arthur.

Not sure what to expect from the signing, but Joey Porter to Arizona Cardinals for 3 years, roughly 17 million... led NFL in sacks in 2008, then still had 9 last season is a diminished role as the Dolphins went young half the time. I'm hopeful for 10+ in this first season, if not the next, but I hold little hope for good production beyond that.

he should help lessen the loss of dansby, no?

i read his deal maxes out at 24 mil if he hits incentives...i'd guess sack based.

he might very well be worth that kind of jack,
but i'm glad the skins aren't overpaying...
or desperately trying to match these deals...
as he was at redskins park yesterday for a visit.

Not really. Dansby was inside and was more of a stop-gap for the inside run. Porter is all about putting pressure at the line of scrimmage and getting to the quarterback. Not nearly as versatile, but more of a specific skill. He addresses an area of concern, so it's a good signing on paper. His signing frees them up to use their 1st and 2nd on ILB and DT or CB, then add some offensive weapons (OL and TE) with their two thirds. The Cardinals have rebounded pretty well from their disastrous start. They added a quality backup/starting option in Anderson, added two veteran linebackers and acquired Rhodes on the cheap. Most have question marks, but each came at the total cost of one of the contracts of Dansby or Rolle. Boldin is still a glaring hole to fill, but a good pass-catching TE will help.

Going to be interesting to see what the Cards do with so many key losses in FA (and retirement) this year.

Rhodes = Rolle (less athleticism, but similar production)
Lenon & Porter > Dansby (depth and pass rush)
Anderson <<< Warner (but he could make some throws if given time)

Cardinals haven't addressed Boldin, but a good pass-catching TE in round two or early round three could nicely replace his across-the-middle production, which is the biggest area that will be missed. The Cardinals also get their 2nd-rounder from last year back from injury. So, they've added three linebackers to replace one, and will likely add an additional inside linebacker in the 3rd or 4th round.

My guess is in the draft...

    1st: DT or CB
    2nd: CB or DT
    3rd: OL or TE
    3rd: TE or OL
    4th: ILB
    5th: OL
    6th: DT
    7th: OL or CB

They've had excellent drafts of late. Some of the best top to bottom of any team. I have faith in their draft. I'm hopeful Leinart or Anderson can make the necessary throws and that Wells can become a mainstay feature back good for 20+ carries a game.

I don't trust Bidwell, but there's nothing in Whisenhunt's resume' that says I shouldn't trust him.

  22. #97
The Cards will be fine at receiver with Fitz and Breaston outside with Doucet in the slot. I'll be really disappointed if they go DT early. Allan Branch deserves the job as starting nose tackle next year, he played well in limited time this year and found ways to beat double teams. Didn't get enough snaps, idk why Gabe Watson and Robinson earned such a heart warming spot in Whisenhunt's asshole but Branch is way better than either one and didn't play enough.

The main concern with the team is still QB, with CB/ILB/O-line all being other concerns.

    I'd be just fine going...

    1st: CB
    2nd: OL
    3rd: ILB
    3rd: QB
    4th: TE
    5th: DT
    6th: OL
7th: CB or OL or DT

If they could get Lefevour with a 3rd rounder I'd be happy. I'll eventually get over it but i think they made a big mistake letting David Carr go to the 49ers. Since next year is a rebuilding year it'd be great timing to draft an OT or CB so he could have a year to get used to the NFL. Those are two positions that have a learning curve.
