With the exception of the Locke episode, my opinion on this season isn't very high...

First, I can best describe the newly unveiled places on the island as "hokey". From the actual temple and its inhabitants (more on them later) to the random cave with the scale & rocks, it just seems the mystery was unveiled to be a bit cheesy. The only cool new place IMO was the lighthouse with the reflective glass that shows how Jacob watched the Losties.

Next, the new people and their lack of development. With the exception of the couple buried alive in season 2, there hasn't been a more disappointing introduction and conclusion to characters as this season with the temple inhabitants. The japanese guy is assigned the job of temple protector along with his "second in command"...some nerdy looking white dude. One would think that such important characters carry a lofty weight in the outcome of the island and should be developed as such. But the most they get is an appearance in a "flash sideways" and a one-line backstory about a drunk driving accident. I understand there are only 10 episodes left, but c'mon...where's the dedication to development that's been there in the past?

Finally, the direction...or lack thereof. I understand that there are 10 episodes left before the finale, but this season has seemingly lacked some flow or continuity to the previous seasons. I think it's due in part to the distraction that is the "flash sideways". Don't get me wrong, I actually like that part, but the loose correlation to the Losties on the island (not sure how it ties) causes it to detract from the on-island storyline, IMO. The bottom line is there are many questions that need to be answered, very little time to do so, and the first few episodes haven't really wowed me with promise that they will be.

Having said all that, I am a loyal Lost follower (only show I DVR but still watch live) and trust that the creators will come full circle by the end...and answer all the big questions. I think it's been a slow start, but there's certainly time to rebound.

Hopefully that rebound starts with the Ben episode tomorrow night!

You were ignoring a lot of stuff then.

The only thing I saw as different in this past episode is that he seemed to enjoy killing Dogen and Lennon. They hadn't showed that side of Sayid before.
He seemed to enjoy it, but he also seems possessed.

    Dead is dead, right?

Are they really gonna kill him off?
If they kill him off this soon before the finale, that would suck beyond all suckage.

I think the flash-sideways is actually the future of the Losties on the island right now... I believe that Locke's clan (Sayid, Kate, and eventually Sawyer... maybe even a resurrected Locke) will somehow arrive back in the FS timeline with a full memory of what occurred on the island. The other clan (Jack in particular, not sure yet about Hurley/Jin/Sun/Miles) will arrive back in 2004 without remembering anything from the island.

Not sure how all of this goes down, but Sayid's quote last week ("I don't deserve you after what I've done") made me think the current island story is more related to the flash-sidewayses than we are supposed to believe at this point.

I agree with pretty much everything, except I really dislike the flash sideways stuff. It's just not entertaining television. As for the new island locations being cheesy, Lost has always been extremely full of cheese - since the very first episode. That was part of the charm for me. It was very much like Twin Peaks in that it was silly, cliche, and stupid but still inherently awesome. The Jack and Sayid episodes were steps in the right direction. Stuff actually happened this last episode.

yeah, I pretty much agree on everything. I also don't really understand why they are going this route.

Among other things, they spent so much time and energy developing Ben and Widmore and in this final season, they are dismissing them rather abruptly.

It's not that what we are watching isn't entertaining......to me what I'm watching is not really "Lost" as I've known it.

My brother actually has the same theory, that the "flash sideways" are actually "flash forwards". In other words, we're not watching two alternate realities but instead that the conclusion of the island storyline (with destruction of the island) will result in the "flash sideways" storyline.

This makes some sense, if the creators wanted to give a glimpse into how each of the Losties lives turns out but not dedicate an entire season to doing so (could they keep it intriguing enough?).

The quote that leads me to believe this is plausible is the one by Miles...when he told Sawyer that a buried Juliet told him "it worked".

I may just start watching the storylines in this way to see if it fits.

Remember when Ben confronted Widmore in his bedroom and told him he'd take away what was most precious to him? Was there ever a resolution to him going after Penny, as in they showed what happened at the docks when he looked beat up and made that phone call?

I still don't understand why someone as important as Ben would get caught in that trap when we first met him. It doesn't make sense that the Others, who are so careful and dominating in everything they do, would just let him get caught even as part of some master plan.

LOST definitely has holes, but as long as it doesn't obviously affect Jack's story I'm cool with it.

it's been a while, but I thought he allowed himself to get caught in the trap so that he could get information about the losties.

I think he knew it wasn't his time to die yet....much like when Tom told Michael the island still needed him and wouldn't let him die

He shot Desmond and was about to shoot Penny when their son walked out onto the deck of the boat. Ben paused long enough (probably thinking about his own daughter) for Desmond to tackle him and proceed to beat the everliving crap out of him before tossing him in the water.

After that, Ben had to focus on getting back to the island so he never got another chance for revenge.

Ouch, that's pretty anti-climatic since I assumed the war between Ben and Widmore would encompass more than Ben getting his ass kicked on a boat. Thanks!

Everything they've shown in the FS timeline indicates NO memories of any kiind by the non-castaways.
BTW, Sayid did LOADS of bad LONG before he crashed on the island. That statement could have applied to almost anything.

I'm not buying it. The ONLY way they could do it is if they memory wiped everyone, which would be hokey, even for Lost. No one seems to know anyone else, or remember anything.

As for Juliet's statement to Miles "from beyond", wouldn't she be privy to information as a dead person that we wouldn't have?

I know you're supposed to believe he's talking about what he did for the Republican Guard, but my theory is that he's talking about wht happened on the island.

And while I'd have to rewatch the episodes in order to be a little more confident about it, there's nothing from Kate or Locke's episodes that I can remember that indicated they had no memory of the island. Maybe that's why Kate was so eager to help Claire even though she was on the run from the law?

I think there just has to be more to it than a 16 episode epilogue.

I'm sure it is. It's just a starter theory... some details aren't certain yet. Like I said before, I don't think Jack remembers the island. For whatever reason. It would probably have something to do with how/if certain ones among them get off the island.

They'd have to time travel again. The FS timeline is 2004 and current island time is 2007.

My theory is that the FS is just showing that no matter what, you are who you are. Jack isn't a serial killer. Kate isn't a housewife. Sayid isn't a gay fashion designer. There are some small differences, but everyone has close to the same life they had in the "real" timeline, right down to Kate being a fugitive for murder, and Claire getting preggers at the same exact time. Jack married and divorced, but we don't know he didn't do that before, do we? He has a kid, but he seems to be substantially the same person. They all do.

I also think that few, if any, of the principles will survive. Finding out that the creators are fans of The Stand means there will be blood. Of the permanent committee of seven in the book, I think two survived.
