"The Spurs are planning to call up Erie's Cedric Jackson this week, sources say. He'll play behind George Hill, with Tony Parker out 6 weeks."
Probably will never see the light of day on the court.

He had two ten-day contracts with the Cavs earlier this season.
If we need someone to make a 60 ft. buzzer beater hes the guy to have.

RU article from January when the Cavs needed an emergency backup PG. Evaluates many of the options that have been discussed around here lately.
The Cedric Jackson part:
Cedric Jackson (Erie BayHawks, 16.5 ppg, 8.2 apg, 4.7 rpg (as a starter), 40% FG, 30% 3pt) - Jackson's the best defensive player on this list not named Jefferson. The Cleveland State alum was actually the Horizon League defensive player of the year last season. With the Cavs D-League affiliate, the Erie BayHawks, he's recently earned himself his spot in the rotation as a full-time starter - Since January 6th, the 10-13 BayHawks have won six of their past eight games, all Jackson starts. Jackson doesn't really have a jump shot (the numbers aren't lying), but he does very well at working off the pick-and-roll and getting to the bucket, either finishing below the rim or getting to the free-throw line. The Cavs' brass should be very familiar with him as he played right underneath their nose at Cleveland State and is now playing for their affiliate in Erie. While this is probably a long shot, I'd welcome this call-up because, if nothing else, it'd be a nice way to reward the rookie's solid play with a 10-day contract and see how he does on the big stage. He's also a pure point in the same way Williams is a pure point, if you catch my drift.

I don't know much about him, but looking at his stats, it looks like he's not a good shooter. He has a good amount of assists, but he is also turnover prone. You can't really tell anything about defense by looking at the stat sheet, but he's in the top 10 in steals in the D-League. He's a good rebounder as well. He'll need to keep turnovers down, take smart shots, and play smart defense.
Got it! Tommy Point!
Jackson is a decent player- the only high level talent he has is play some defence and he can't shoot to save his life (spin: pass-first point) but he can run a pick'n'roll till the teams figure out he cant shoot and is smart enough to not turnover the ball too much.
As I predicted, a D-League PG able to defend and dribble a bit would be the choice.
Where do you find the time to be so informed about Dleague AND overseas players? It would seem like following both would almost be mutually exclusive.
Good call![]()
6'3 190 #11
He's going to be our John Wall lol.![]()
I would have liked the Spurs to pick a better 3 point shooter.
Above average defender, but not a stopper. Plays the passing lanes very well.
Good rebounder for his position, yes; but a good NBA rebounding guard looks absolutely spectacular in the D-League.
Bad shooter. Even at the rim he's not a very good finisher for NBA standards.
He drives a lot and tends to overpenetrate, so he has a high turnover rate, but that's in the D-League. In the NBA he'll be more conservative and take good care of the ball.
I'm not that informed about the D-League, it's just that I only watch the archived games and this season there's plenty of them featuring Cedric Jackson's team.
Gotcha. You are right more often than about 99% of the posters here. Thanks for the insight.
So, in the whole wide world this is the best our front office can find. Why am I not surprised.
He's already got two call-ups from the Cavs, and apparently plays decent defense. What exactly were you expecting from the FA pool in early March?
they couldve signed lebron James and you wouldve ed.
I would have been happier with Lebron's momma being signed. This guy is a slug. He is slightly above average as an NBDL defender, which makes him slightly below average NBA defender. His inability to shoot from anywhere on the floot makes him a tremendous liability if he ever gets any PT. Jerrells and a host of others would have been better. The only reason he got a call up in Cleveland was because he was a local favorite, not because he was an NBA calliber guard. Of the players that have been NBA finge players over the past few years, (Farmer, Washington, Williams) this guy ranks dead last. We can only hope that no one else gets injured or it will get ugly.
And you base this conclusion on.....
There weren't quality vet PG available so trying a young guy, with an eye on next year, is better than going after a bad vet.
Saying have, I don't know Cedric Jackson so I cna't say if he is or not the most interesting young PG in the D-League.
He was a stud at Cleveland State. I don't see him getting much playing time though. Probably a better back up PG than Roger Mason.
Extended familiy live in Ohio, and I grew up there myself. Am aware of this kid because in general I root for guys from Ohio to do well and watch them consistantly at the collegiate level. This is why I think Lighty from Ohio St might make a decent player at the next the NBA level in a few years. This guy, as his game translates today, is everything that I said. I root for the Ohio players, but I love the Spurs more.
10.9 ppg, .391 fg%, .306 3pt% 5.4 apg his senior season on Cleveland frickin State. He couldn't even get PT from St John's so he transferred to Cleveland St.
This guy on the Spurs is a waste of space.

Ian actually shows a bit but never sees the court, but I bet this cat gets PT. It's the Pop way.
He gets 25 min a night if he looks at all like Finley.
Optimism at its best![]()
