Has Lebron Peaked, and is he now on the downside?

With Lebron now injured and done shooting his wad from last year's playoffs, is Lebron now on his downside? He turns 26 this year and has a lot of mileage. His stats have not gotten better since his second season, they are actually on a slight downslope. Lebron also looks like Oden, someone who has aged prematurely.

    What do you think?

    I think yes.

Lebron has the highest PER among NBA player in league history as of last week. Hitting the 32.0+ mark. Better than Jordans best season, better than Wilt's and better than the whole New Jersey Nets starting lineup combined.

    You tell us.

Its actually a conspiracy. Lebron is a member of the Illuminati, and they have ordered him to stop dominating in basketball.
You would know this stuff if you didn't listen to everything big brother told you, tbh.

I think you might be able to argue that he's hit his peak athletically. But, basketball players can get better by improving their skill and IQ. In that regard, I don't think he's yet reached his peak.

My first thought. Big brother is hiding the obvious truth. Lebron was actually created by genetic mutation in the same building where they filmed the Apollo 11 landing.

I concur, his athletisism just can't improve from the gorrila that he is now. However, in the future when he's towards the late 20s early 30s he'll have to depend on his overall ability and iq much more.

Umm...it took me about 2 seconds to answer this and it is a flat-no. I think if he continues to work on his game, he still has room to grow and become better. If he stays healthy, we'll be talking about Kobe Bryant's ascending arc and not a Vince Carter or Tracy McGrady-like fall.

WHat are these descending stats the op is talking about?
I see almost all his advanced stats are up: His per is a ridiculous 31.9 right now(up from 31.7 last season), his true shooting has improved from 0.59 to 0.611(!!), his eFG from 0.531 to 0.551. Assist % is also up. Only his rebounding is down a notch(and that might well be due to better rebounders around him).
If anything he is peaking right now ,it's hard to imagine he will get any better than this.

if the op ever watched nba games the past 5 years, it would have been with great ease to say that lebron's game has changed alot. Stats don't mean , it's the fact that his game matured each year. So as a per/stats stuff i don't know if he can improve considerably (like 25% better) but as a player he keeps getting better and better.

this is his peak. he is not on the decline yet, but its coming. his game is a little to awkward to be refined into what jordan and kobe did when they lost some atheletism. his jumper may improve, but his game is built around strength and speed, and as immature as he seems to be, i cant see him wising up and adding a bunch more moves and a post game anytime soon.

Did Jordan peak in 1985, 1993, or 1996? That is 3 distinct eras for him. He evolved 3 times. Much like that Jordan Vs Jordan commercial a few years back. LeBron is still on the way up. Even if he was on the way down, skill-wise, as he will be 5 to 8 years from now, he may increase his BBIQ and become even more dangerous...

MJ's peak was probably the 95-96 season. He turned 33 during the season, and that was his 11th season in the league. I figure Lebron's peak will come earlier age-wise because he came into the league at 18. This is his 7th season in the league. Lebron's peak will probably occur somewhere between 2011-2013. If whoever gets Lebron this summer can sign him to a long term deal, they will have him for his peak years.

son as long as he continues to receive at least 10+ free points from the line by the refs he will be fine. think about it, all he really has to do is earn 10-15 points per game, then the rest are easy, free points from the line to help inflate his scoring numbers.

There is some validity to this, but even Wade may break down because of his style of play, and he gets more benefit than anyone else in the NBA.

    1. PER, I know LeBron is a beast by watching him play, not reading some formula which arbitrarily sets values for certain stats while disregarding intangibles altogether.
    2. Wilt's best season did not include stats for blocks steals or TO's, so his PER in skewed downward. 50/25/5 Assists/5 Blocks is /\/\/\/\ 32 PER. Not that PER holds any merit

He's gotten better every year he's been in the league. No reason to think it'll stop now.
