Your interest in a position can definitely change after an interview, maalox. A thank you note following an in person interview is both professional and appropriate - it expresses interest or disinterest but most importantly, it's thanking the interviewer for their time and consideration.

This actually happened. The first interview I had through this process was a complete bust. It was for a professional career school as a retention specialist.

Sounds good for me, right? Sounded awesome on paper. Had the outreach experience, the degree, spoke spanish, etc. The guy I interviewed with was a complete and openly expressed his distaste for my former employer...and then even asked me how I felt about minorities (we were both white).I didn't answer the question and moved the conversation in a different direction...

I cannot, and will not work with someone who feels the need to ask those types of questions. Needless to say, I did not send a thank you note for that interview...

I managed an employment agency for a long time.. it was customary for us to ask the job candidates to write thank you notes to the prospective employers after their interviews. It's a nice courtesy. Ash is doing the right thing.
Sounds like it was done more for the employment agency's sake than for the job candidate. I think they make very little, if any, difference on your prospects for getting hired.

I disagree. The interviewer is just doing his/her job by conducting the interview. Thankyou notes are unnecessary. They might make the employment agency look good though.

I have conducted several interviews and have never considered whether a thankyou note was received when making a hiring decision.

Well if the candidate's interest changes after an interview then a "thanks, but no thanks" note is necessary to let the interviewer know not to waste any more resources on them. But if a thank you note is going to hold enough credence that the lack of one is going to help determine whether a job is offered or not, I'll just skip the note and go straight for the fruit basket!

What if I think they should be happy to have me. Then, do I need to send them a thank you note?? Maybe, they should send me one for taking my time to go talk to them.

There's just a drug test (which I'm taking tomorrow) standing between me and my new job as a case manager for an independent foster care provider. Yeeah buddy.

A case manager for an independent foster care provider?

Is that one of those places that takes the $300 per week/kid from the state and then sticks them in tents or ty dorms?

No. They place them with willing, able and caring parents and keep track of them to make sure everything is alright (of course there is more detail than that).

I'm glad you are happy with it. I know several people that do foster care and a couple that went long term adoption from foster care. You will also see some heart breaking cases. Hope you are up for that.
