Taco Haven on Gevers. One of the best breakfast tacos I've had ever. Second to Bishop Cafe in Bishop.
torchy's is overrated. good tacos, but theyre ridiculously expensive.
It's one of the things I'm most ashamed of that as a life-long Texan, I have not sampled San Antonio's mexican cuisine. I think as a child my parents took me to the Alamo Cafe, but it was more akin to Herbert's in San Marcos. I really need to sample some S.A. tex-mex and mexican establishments (non Riverwalk, because those places didn't look at all appetizing).
torchy's is the definition of "hipster bfast tacos".... They shouldn't even be called tacos...maybe wraps or something. All my white friends love em
the pic in the article is of tamale house which is delicious!!
Eh, you get what you pay for. They put a lot of stuff on their tacos and they're pretty good. Good enough to keep me coming back anyway. My favorite taco in town is probably Curra's al pastor tacos. There's a dog and cat truck on Riverside that makes a mean one too.
Wraps is a good way of describing them. And the white/hipster folk do love them.
do you like la mexicana on s first?
Rosita's al pastor ftw
The bakery? I don't think I've been there. Should I?
I think I've got a place to go now.
yes! if you speak spanish it won't take 20 minutes to order. Killer Tacos!!!!
I love the barbarcoa.
Estella's, 1224 West Arkansas Lane, Arlington
They're pretty close. Still haven't found any good carne guisada, yet.
I love when I talk to Northeasters and they have no idea what things like carne guisada or barbacoa are. The Mexican menu is like second language for most Texans.
Then again, I probably couldn't tell a bowl of proper clam chowder from a bump on a log.
Juan in a million sucks ass, you a cali implant or a carpetbagger?
Um, drool. Where is this place? I'll hafta try it when I go to SA next month. I can't seem to find a REALLY GOOD taco al pastor anywhere. Granted, I live in Dallas, but I've gone to the small taquerias around town, and have yet to find one comparable to ANY of the ones I had in Cuernavaca.
i'm pretty sure mr. nyt writer never ventured into the west or south sides of san antonio.
Is this the one pego has in his sig? I need to try that one, too.
Arlington's a little out of the way for me (I live in Denton), but I saw a chick wearing a shirt from there and thought about tryin it some time. Didn't want another Fuzzy's disappointment, though.
austin. off oltorf
Austin?!? Chiiiiingow.
Score, will need to check that out.
I'll also give it up to Taco Deli here in Austin: they make a damn tasty Bison Picadillo taco.
what's really good is the avocado margaritas! sounds weird but sooo good
a leetle chorizo!!!
