He did so much to earn that prize. He should've kept the money.

Look at all he's accomplished in the name of peace.

I prefer what AL Gore did with his winnings.

He donated it to Alliance for Climate Protection, which he chairs.

i.e. He took it from his right pocket and put it in his left.

I love the idea that if someone else in the world did an honorable thing by donating, that automatically makes it "no big deal" or some other garbage. Hilarious.

Headline: "Obama rushes into burning building, saves three children"

Spurstalk Conservative/Republican response: "So what? Firemen do that all the time?"

Headline: "Obama discovers cure for cancer!"

Spurstalk Conservative/Republican response: "And just how many dollars did that cure cost the American taxpayer?!?"

Headline: "Obama unites Israel and Pakistan in harmony!"

Spurstalk Conservative/Republican response: "Obama has no respect for the Israeli people, obviously. Capitulator!"

as much as I hate BHO I still have to set my thumb upright this time. However it wasn't because of any kind of immortality he doesn't actually have IMHO, he just did what was required and he would be nuts if he did otherwise.

No kidding. It's like Red Team is afraid that if they give Obama kudos for one little thing that they'll be turned into socialists.

It's okay red teamers, I promise you can give Obama a thumbs up for donating a bunch of money to charity and still be against Obamacare. There are plenty of legitimate things to get on Obama's case about. This is not one of them.

Too bad Obama didn't actually do any of those things, or else his Nobel would be warranted.

Whether or not he deserved the award is a completely different issue from acknowledging him for doing something good with the money from it.

Just one question? He passed out (according to the article) exactly 1.4 million bucks. Just what he won.

What about the money for TAXES he owes on that 1.4 Mil? Is that coming out of his pocket?

At least in theory you can't win a million, give it away, and owe NOTHING to the IRS.

    That's easy.

He's not a US citizen, so he doesn't have to pay US taxes.

Actually, the Nobel Prize is explicitly mentioned in the tax code.

    http://www.irs.gov/publications/p525/ar02.html#d0e8872

Basically, if you give it away to charity, you don't have to pay income tax on it.
