Duncan wanted to trade himself? How convenient...![]()
A source told Sports Illustrated. Found it in HoopsHype...

One source close to the team said general manager Kevin Pritchard was swayed toward Oden not only because of the Blazers' needs but also because nearly every GM inquired about making a deal for the right to choose Oden, including San Antonio, which was said to be open to offering Tim Duncan. If rivals were considering trading cornerstone players for Oden, it's hard to blame Pritchard for making that choice.
Personally, I don't buy it for a second. Duncan was only 31 at the time, fresh of his fourth championship and still widely regarded as the best player in the game and that doesn't even begin to get into what he means to the franchise. I doubt the Spurs would have considered trading him for a raw 19 year old center who, even if he reached his potential, likely would have taken a handful of years and almost assuredly never would become as good as Duncan.

Nor do I. Anytime you see the phrasing "San Antonio, which was said....", you know BS is to follow. Who said it? Who was it said to? It's just plain ridiculous and fails the common sense test.
When was this said? This is the first time I have ever heard of this.including San Antonio, which was said to be open to offering Tim Duncan.![]()
Don't believe it. We wouldn't even think about doing that and I agree with the OP's comments.
This sounds like Portland's attempt to pass the blame for making what appears to be the wrong pick.
"San Antonio would have traded Duncan for him, so we weren't the only ones!"
Not 1 .oz of truth to that. What a bunch of BS.
I'm not a GM in any shape or form AND I wouldn't even consider trading a sure-fire HOF'er, franchis player for a 1 year college player with a history of injuries. He didn't even dominate in college !!! Are you kidding me ?
Just total, complete nonsense.
CYA Pritchard.
why is crap like this even reported?
worst trade idea ever
This has been discussed before.

Great.... if that happened we would have had two pornstars.
are they sure they were talking about the real nba? or NBA LIVE 10?
Damn. If we made that trade, Duncan could win his 5th ring this year.
Do you think we would trade "Stone Buddha" for "Glass Knee's"?
Pop wouldn't trade 80% of the Spurs corporate knowledge for a rookie.
