I read new corp is doing the same thing. it's the new idea of how to save newspapers.
It's a big fail. You can get the same info from official sources (like spurs.com, Ludden and Woj at yahoo.com) for free. Even more so now with sites like Twitter and Facebook where news spread like wildfire and are also free...
Selling subscriptions on a closed platform like the upcoming iPad is probably all they have left, but even then revenues are simply gonna go down...

I guess the Spurs Report has some hook up with the Excuse News as they are still posting the newspaper story's word for word. I don't think that the Excuse worries about losing hits to the SR. SR had about 300 viewers but only 15 members at the site. 300 viewing---sure they do.
I only buy a newspaper on Wednesday , Friday and Sunday. A $1 per paper for the other days is a waste of money. The Excuse in the future will probably charge for the online site as this is what a lot of newspapers are trying now.

I'll be removing every single Express News/mysa.com article from SpursTalk tonight.

Do not post anymore of their articles.

    Thanks.
I was going to post a whole bunch of E-N articles just to be funny, but after the "banning" of BRHornet for one whole day, I reconsidered.

The Express-News is still in business???

, I thought they went out of business the day after the SA Light went kaplunk!

In all seriousness they have laid off about 70% of their employees over the past couple of years. This time next year they will be so far under water that they'll think they are bottom sucking wallywompers! Who needs the E-N anyway. Goobye E-N.......

I can understand and appreciate the point of view of papers wanting to restrict the complete posting of their articles all over the web. But they have to realize they'll never really be able to fully police it either. It's just part of the reality of the internet.

I'm sure there was a much better way for them handling this though. No need to use lawyers to strong arm the most viewed fan based Spurs site out there. Instead of fostering a positive relationship here, which they could have used to benefit their own viewership, they've gone out and turned off potential customers with their poorly thought out tactics. Brilliant.

One of our local papers (Detnews.com) recently made a very smart move IMO. When you copy and past an article from their site, it automatically imbeds a "from the Detroit News" followed by the link to their story. Now they don't have to worry about posters not supplying a link to their site. They're taking the far smarter approach IMO, accepting the fact that people will borrow their stories and repost them. But at least this way they are getting full attribution.

All outside authors get links and attribution here too.

This is just big business ing with people for no reason.

WTF? Does this mean no more exposing McDonald's and Monroe's 5th grade interpretations of the games? I mean, the only reason I have ever read an Express News article in the last 15 years was because it was linked here, at Spursreport, or WOAI's old Spurs forum. That newspaper isn't even worthy for reading in a break.

The Thing that I have with this is that a newspaper (should) only be worried about their content used (posted) elsewhere and the host there is earning money outta it. ST is a free, non-commercial fan-run site and does not derive any income by posting links from EN. That EN is still worried is more to do with its ad revenue and its su ion that readers will not visit EN if they can get content posted on ST itself. That is a more valid reason. But considering that EN will have new readers - I am a reader who never reads their paper or has no reason to and would only want to read about the Spurs - through ST, they could simply have asked the owners of ST to politely request its users to post links rather than entire articles and not be so intimidating about it. End of matter.

They asked us to remove them all (in the letter) -- so that's since the forum existed.
The law was only recently clarified to the two sentence rule. It's possible that anything before that doesn't need to be changed.

A parody is legit, so we can make fun of them all we want. The more this occurs the more second rank the paper will appear nationally and internationally. (of course in context with the Spurs).

If we paid money to go to the SA Express-News website (like the posting of ESPN Insider stuff that happens now and again) I could see them being upset. In effect, this is free advertising and only making their sire and writers more famous. At the core of this is that, since we go to Spurstalk, and not their website, their sponsors are not getting any clicks. Which is why they have to do this, to please those that pay to advertise on their site.
