Afghanistan an ally? that's nothing bigger than a pawn at finest IMHO. I'm not tagging Karzai's government a puppet under US force but anyone even Karzai himself cannot deny the truth that their governmental officials still have yet to be ready for leaving the pram.
only daily-life costs of US troops on duty there can often be as huge as millions of dollars in conservative estimation. and that only includes food/fuel consumed and some other trifle utensils. You know how big the loss would be when a tank got burnt or a helicopter plummeted down after colliding with a missile.
