Now I agree su ions should have been raised, and the coupon verified. However, someone has cracked the data sequence and know how to bar-code. Such phony coupons do work on some systems. If the originator of the coupon is ever found, this can be serious jail time. Not just for the theft, but forgery as well.
What is the jail time for forgery anyway?

The picture came from 4chan which hosts an anonymous posting board. I've done searches to find similar receipts and stories, all of them deleted from 4chan but some still available in cache. I suspect the picture was taken down from the hosting site by law enforcement as evidence and will be used in an investigation. It's just a ing PS3 though, this will probably get a fine (in addition to paying back the $300 it's worth) and 1 year probation without going to a jury.

A first degree crime is premeditated. It is planned, not out of passion of the moment. To plan a crime and carry it out against others needs to be dealt with harshly.
Maybe you should move to areas of Afghanistan where policies such as that have successfully eliminated crime altogether.
