Is this a new show or a mini-series?

looks amazing
My maternal grandfather flew P-51s over Europe and my great uncle served in the Pacific. I never really got to talk to my grandfather much about the fighting in Europe, but my great uncle used to tell us that it was fighting in the Pacific because you had so many variables involved such as typhoid, malaria, dysentery, and yellow fever plus the unwillingness to surrender. It was also the start of "guerrilla warfare" that the U.S. would eventually face again vs. the Vietcong and NVA during the Vietnam conflict. Unfortunately, my great uncle died before I got all of his stories out, but he said he had been to Guadalcanal and the Phillipines before getting injured and sent back home. Doubly unfortunate is that I don't have HBO at the moment to watch this incredible series...
Did anyone understand the medic's death? Was he killed by friendly fire? I thought it was pretty good even though only probably about half of the first episode actually took place in The Pacific. I do think that the media and Hollywood has historically favored the European part of WWII when it comes to movies, miniseries, do entaries, etc.... I know that WWII was a big deal in Europe and very important but the soldiers in The Pacific were just as important and a big deal in my opinion. It seems like there should be a balance. That's just me though.
I want to check this out but don't have hbo ;_;
I loved band of brothers so i know i'll like this.
Will wait for the blu-ray I guess.![]()
are you talking about the guy they opened up on at night? if so yeah he was killed by friendly fire they thought he was a jap and opened fire.. he didn't say the code word after coming back from taking a piss
and i wish there were more pacific movies/shows - just as vital of a front and i'd say a more intense one due to the enemies we were fighting were all completely ready to die
of course, the first episode was a bit slow but that's to be expected to develop the characters and plot. expect a lot more action in the next episode
Just finished watching part 01. Looks good. I expect it to get even better.
Saw the first ep last night and it was really good, although I think they should have done a Currahee-type episode like in Band of Brothers to better introduce the characters.
My grandfather was ground crew for Spitfires in Borneo. He never talked about it, but I read his diary of it, and it sounded pretty much like .
They put the first episode online but the rest won't be.
That's cool about your grandfather. Mine was also in Europe during WWII and flew Lockheed P-38's. He flew out of Italy and Africa and was part of the 14th Fighter Group.
My grandfather and his brother both fought in Europe and his brother also in the Pacific. My grandfather was about a week or so away from going to the Pacific for the invasion when the war ended. He didn't sustain any major injuries but his brother had a horrific chest wound. I remember he still wore the patch over his chest until he died in the mid 2000's.
I thought the 1st episode was good, the night ambush where they just mowed them while having to move to keep from being flanked was a nice touch. So was the soldier going through the dead Japanese soldier's nap and finding the pictures.
Compared to Band of Brother's premier I thought it was pretty boring. The special effects and cinematography are far superior though.
The characters and actors don't seem to captivate or hold your interest as well as guys like Ron Livingston, the FRIENDS guy, etc.
I'm still excited for The Pacific but so far it sucks compared to BOB.
I disagree. I thought the premiere was superior to that of BOB. More action.
I won't go as far to say that it's boring or sucks, but I do agree the first episode left me a little underwhelmed. Still have high hopes though, I'm sure it will get better.
Action-wise, BOB was more entertaining and plentiful imo. The premier for BOB was a two-parter and had the D-day paradrop and Lt. Winters leading Easy Company to destroy those guns pointed towards the beach. The Pacific only had a few minutes of pitch black fighting at Alligator Creek and that friendly fire incident.
My biggest beef though are the characters and actors; seems like a step down from BOB (Lt. Spears that gives the cig to the prisoners and shoots 'em, no Captain Sobel, Ron Livingston, and the rest of the bunch).
Still excited but definitely disappointed so far. Even the training episode for BOB was more entertaining.
It's the first episode...give it some time..we needed to be introduced to the characters etc...there are 9 more to go..I'm pretty sure they wont be "boring".
Ron Livingston and the guy who played Winters were great, don't know if this one will have that character depth, but even if not it should still be damn good. I have hopes for a couple of the characters.
Pretty sure you can watch the whole episode online here: http://www.hbo.com/the-pacific/index...l-episode.html
Episode 2 tonite. Right during the Spurs game.
Characters seemed to stand out more in Band of Brothers. All the major ones pretty much stuck out from the very beginning. I was having trouble figuring out who was who in The Pacific's first episode... still good stuff though. Nice action scenes, and it's good to watch a quality show about the Pacific theater. Looking forward to the rest of the episodes.
So far I'm not connecting with the characters like I did in Band of Brothers. The next episode seems to have little action and is more about showing us the characters so that will definitely fix this problem.
A lot of night fighting so far, that one guy Basilone or however you spell it handling the machine gun bare handed getting third degree burns to mow the enemy was intense. Seems the curly haired skinny dude Lucky and him are the main characters so far.
Yeah, next week will be character drama episode.
So far I score it:
Band of Brothers: 20,000
Pacific: 28
